Locally I see a lot of Winchester 180gr .308 Super X Power-Point and and Remington 180gr .308 Core-Lokt soft point. Which one is better/do you prefer?

Use will be for target and possibly hunting.

Its getting too costly to shoot Federal 175gr HPBT and Federal 180gr Nosler Partition.

I know loading your own is cheapest but looking for something cheap thats off the shelf.
Any opinions appreciated.

i've only used 180gr .303 british core-lokt..but impressive performance on the deer i got...i think they're hard to beat for the price.

You will get similar accuracy and terminal performance from both the Power Point and the Corelokt bullets. When I buy bulk bullets I usually opt for the Corelokts, but that is simply a result of habit since I was more impressed by their advertising when I was a kid.

Given that this is in the accurate rifle section, one wouldn't expect game bullets to produce the same level of accuracy as match bullets, but if you were handloading you could at least bring your influence into the equation by working up an accurate load and experimenting with the OAL so they shoot to their full potential in your rifle. If the purpose of the exercise is to simply find the cheapest .308 ammo check at Districorp now and again for deals on Igman (Hungarian) hunting ammo or South African surplus. They currently have .30/06 but not .308, and the South African stuff is sold out, but you could check their website every month or so.

Igman is from the Former Yugoslavia, either Serbia or Bosnia-Herzegovina. There was/is an arsenal in the town of Igman that for some reason was neutral grounds during the war. Neither side quite wanted to capture it, because they knew that defending it would be too difficult.
