After years of lugging around 26" heavy barreled rifles I have decided to maybe give a mid weight rifle a try. What coyote round will perform best when fired from a 23" barrel?

The 22-250 is probably the best all-around varmint/predator rifle out there. Able to handle heavier bullets and still maintain top speeds than the 223 and only slightly behind the 220 Swift. Less recoil than the 243 and 6mm and copious amounts on bullets and ammunition available, versus a much smaller number of components for the 204.

I'm a barrel hog and tend to prefer long tubes but a 22-250 will do fine out of a 23" barrel. I would choose the 22-250 over the 223 because it will give you better speeds with 70-80 grain bullets wghich would be my choice for longer range shooting at wary dogs.

My vote is for the 22-250 as well. The lighter barrels are just fine for this as long as your not planning to sit at the range with it all day, the barrel just gets too hot in a sporter contoured barrel for much range time or even lots of gopher shooting.

My next choice would be the 243 as it is still extremely fast and flat shooting and has a good selection or bullets available for it as well.

most short length .22-250's are a 1-14 or 1-12 twist and there is no way a 70-80gr bullet will stabilize out of those twists with a 23" length.......a 1-9 twist is where its at for 70gr+ pills.....55gr would be about max for a 1-12 or 1-14 twist .22-250.....

I still vote the .22-250 as the best yote round......

A 23 inch barrel is dead in the center of standard length barrels, for hunting, coyotes included.
All of the cartridges listed will shoot great in a 23 inch barrel.
No animal hit could tell the difference of what the barrel length was.
Two or three inches of a longer barrel would have no noticeable difference in sighting, over game ranges.
What's there to vote on?

For effectiveness I chose the 22-250. If you consider variables such as cost & semi auto, 223 would take the poll position for me.
