Hi All,
Looking for your input on what you consider the best available 12g shotgun for trap and hunting ?
Max budget is $1500 new and no Turkish made shotguns please.
Semi auto or Over/Under only.
Would like to stick with a renown brand (for great warranty and customer service if needed)
Thanks for your help
Cheers

If you'll settle for used you can't beat the Beretta AL391 Urika or Teknes(sp.). They handle everything from 2 3/4" 3/4oz skeet to 3" max steel with no hesitation. Never needed warranty and it's seen a lot of muck in its life.
Bought mine from S.I.R. so you can guess the age. The matte black has faded over the years but it's worked perfectly.

I have the Browning Maxus Sport model with 30 inch barrel. Not ideal for either but about as good as it gets for both. I use mine for duck hunting, recreational clays and the occasional upland hunt. Light enough to hunt with, heavy enough to shoot all afternoon with target loads. Will not take the 3.5" shells but patterns 3" steel very well with most brands and a choke adjustment. No issues with light target loads unless it is cold and the gun gets really dirty. It is simple to disassemble and clean and stays surprisingly clean for a gas gun.

I offen shoot trap and skeet with my hunting gun, a Browning Maxus Sporting Clays. Never had a ftf or fte eject ever. No problem shooting light target loads either. It will digest 1oz 1180fps loads all day long shooting doubles on trap & skeet. Took it to a couple registered shoots last year and shot 600-700 targets over two days at each shoot and it never missed a beat.
$1500 isn't going to get you much new these days in a quality semi and especially an over under. You'll be hard pressed to get either for under $2300 currently. I'd be looking in the EE for a good condition used gun if you can't budget more than $1500. A new Maxus II Sporting is $2300+ currently. Mine is a gen 1, last used one like mine I saw in the EE was in mint condition with only a handful of rounds through it and was listed at $1800 and sold FAST. Oh and mine has a 28"bbl, you don't need a 30"bbl to shoot trap or hunt with.

In that price range, you are looking for an SX-4, or Silver or A300 , even a lightly used Maxus or A400 will cost more than that , and a good used O/U will cost substantially more than that. I paid $1000 for my SX-3s , but that was close to ten years ago, I paid $1300 for my Maxus Wicked Wings Bronze Edition on sale, but that was five years ago, and that was an amazing sale price, even then.

A good used Remington 1100 , lots of barrel options and stocks to choose and change out as need be. Or a Mossberg 940 pro a bit over your budget but a good choice.
940 Pro field is only $1099 at Cabalas. Within op's budget.

I had the same questions and budget as the op and went with an Sx4 hybrid because it felt the best of all the ones I tried, including the Berretas.

That's also a good point , budget is one thing but how it feels and mounts also makes a difference.

As far as used O/U, Intersurplus has some interesting stuff for what seems like reasonable $

Thank you all for your input. The gun will definitely be used more for trap then hunting. (Hunting would be for ducks.)
I spent some time browsing for reviews and will have a look at the SX4's, A300, Browning Silver and Mossberg Pro 940.
The fit will probably determine the one to buy.

Now if I prefer a used O/U. Which ones would you recommend and what is the price for a used one ? Here too only looking for a reputable brand.
