200rnds @ $169.99 is $0.85/round before tax. You can buy the same American Eagle ammo from SFRC for $16.99/20rnds which comes out to half a cent cheaper per round. Or get the S&B .308 for $699.99/1000 which is $0.70/round (boxer primed, reloadable).
As for surplus apparently a lot of the stuff marketed as non-corrosive is actually corrosive. I would hope the retailers don't know it's actually corrosive but are just going by what their supplier told them.
Frontier Firearms have a case of 1040 (2 cans of 520) on for $539.95 http://frontierfirearms.ca/index.ph.../chinese-7-62x51-fmj-308-win-1040-rounds.html Works out to be about $0.51 a round.

The only corrosive 7.62x51 surplus I've ever seen for sale in Canada is the Czech stuff. Never seen it advertised as non-corrosive.
Are you confusing it with 7.62x39?
Which ammo?
