Best defensive pistol?

Just curious,

if you could have only one pistol for carrying/ tactical/ defensive use what would it be?

I'd vote for a gov't model 1911 in 45 ACP. Probably a Loaded Springfield stainless with tritium sights.

What would you choose?

The "if we could" topic has got to be one of the most flogged subjects in this forum. There's another still going right now and it's likely in the dozens of pages.

Well there's only real one choice for me, H&K P7M8. Best defensive pistol made. Distant second is a Glock.

In no particular order:

1911 Para SSP/Norinco .45acp
CZ 85/Tanfoglio Combat Sport 9MM
Hi-Power 9MM
1911 Para LTC/Nork Commander .45acp
1911 Norinco .45-08 for bears

I have fired thousands of rounds with all three gun types listed and would not feel undergunned with any of them.

One of these sits by my nightstand, always.
