In the photo above you can see the large scooped out area intended for a sling loop. I would like to permanently fill this area in so this side of the stock is completely flat.

I intend to put a self-adhesive velcro strip on this side of the stock so I can put velcro shotshell carriers on it. I believe that filling in that sling loop will provide a better surface for the self-adhesive velcro to hold onto.

Anyone have recommendations on the best filler material to use?

I thought about putting a metal/plastic plate on top, but it won't sit flush with the stock, and may become a weakpoint under the stress of yanking velcro apart often.

Auto body filler sounds like a good idea if it will adhere to the plastic stock. Know where I could pick it up and the cost?

Resin also sounds like a decent idea. For that depth, would I have to apply it in two layers for proper hardening? Do you know cost and where to buy?

Thanks!

Why don't you just try the Velcro first for a while. That industrial backing sticks like Sh$$t to a blanket. If it doesn't work, then you can try filling the pocket

if you fill that whole pocket with automotive resin it's going to be really hot when it's curing. If you try to pour that kind of resin in a plastic mold it will melt the mold. I have no idea what the magpul synthetic is made of, but just something to be aware of. You might warp the stock. A thick block makes a lot of heat. If yo are really gonna do this i woudl suggest mostly filling teh void with expanding foam. Keep it below the surface. then pour resin or epoxy on top. Teh JB weld suggestion is good, but you would need a whack load of teh little tubes JB comes in. Devcon makes some filler resins that have various substrate materials in them. Like a puffy jelly resin with glass fluff in it. That would work very well for the bulk filling then pour a solid layer on top.

No matter what you do it's gonna be damn ugly. I do understand you want function though. I think it is good advice to try the velcro first and make sure you really love it on there.
