I find carrots to be very effective, along with sunflower seeds, snowpeas, cauliflower and broccoli. Cucumbers aren't.

He comes up and leans on the screen door in the morning, looking for his breakfast, and then takes food from the hand.

Why hunt something like that?
You folks hunt and eat squirrels and crows also? :p

On a side note the nice part about having a tame big rodent type critter around is they tend to keep the smaller ones away. :)

.22LR usually works. That close, you might just be able to throw one at him...

I've been known to eat crow occasionally....

Groundhog/woodchuck/marmot/whistlepig defense thread....

Used to be a free-for-all for these on local farms. The worry some cow would step in the hole, and break it's leg. Used to find 4, or 5 in a 3 acre field...I think I've seen 2 this year in total.

Not really a nuisance critter if you've got it eating from your hand. I dunno anyone else who's gotten them to... If you have any dandelions in your yard, they do love those roots.

Have you named it?

Seems the is a little warmth in tiriaq heart,I would poison the carrot!!The next thread will be groundhog ####s up screen cost me two hundred to repair. Caliber choices please!!

He's too cute to eat so keep feeding him and invite him in for dinner as well. Maybe list him as a dependent and see what the Gov thinks about that as he is a Candian Citizen as well. I agree with shooting them in the animal fields as I have seen what happens when a cow or horse breaks a leg in one of the holes. We never ever used tractors on our farm and only horses until we stopped farming years ago now.

I like seeing the pics of live groundhogs once in a while. 'Ruint' pics really get old after a while. I, for one, appreciate the pics of people's wild friends, except for raccoons! They ae bad news...
