What would be the best SERVICE holster for a Glock 17?
Starting IPSC soon and want to get a good one....

let me know,

Cheers,

Phil

I have a Blade tech DOH I got it from double tap.

Awsome holster for beginner in IPSC. I have seen comp-tac and fobus etc etc. Comp-tac is good but better for Defensive shooting as its sits closer to the body than the DOH.

DOH all the way

I'm very happy with my CQC Serpa. I really like the positive lock when you reholster. It's not coming out until you hit the button and now that I've been using it for several IPSC matches I've become used to hitting the button on the draw.

I bought a Fobus paddle holster for my G21 just for my IPSC BB safety course. It's OK, once I sprayed alittle silicone lube into the holster, but for $30 it'll surfice for now till I start to see what other competitors are using before buying a good rig for IPSC matches.

BladeTech's DOH is an excellent holster, I have a couple for my 1911s.

For my G17, I use a KyTac Scooper Hooper holster.

I've been using the Uncle Mikes kydex belt holster and find it's quite good for defensive pistol or IPSC Production. I've tried the Fobus and find the draw isn't as smooth and it does an amazing job of removing the finish from the Glock's slide.

Update: Just cleaned out a week's sand and grit accumulation that I picked up using the Uncle Mikes holster at CFSAC and noticed that the tension screws had back out so far they were about to fall out. I didn't notice a difference in the tension on the draw but I'll be using a dab of loctite or nail polish in the future.

"Service" and (competitive) IPSC shooting call for different holsters.

The BladeTech DOH is very popular and competitive in IPSC. (But I doubt that you'll find many of them in "service". The Safariland 6000 series are ubiquitous in M&P service, but are probably not competitive - not to mention not legal - in IPSC.) You have to choose which role is more important to you.

This thread seems pertinent...

Definitely Serpa. Doesn't take long to get used to and your gun isn't coming out unless you want it to. My BB instructor tested that theory an almost lifted me up trying.

X2 the Uncle Mikes Kydex is cheap to buy, and works great. You will not need to spend big dollars on anthing else. Cheers

go with CR Speed stuff, cant go wrong. its more expensive, but ive never had a problem with it, and if you're gonna stay in production for awhile, might as well start off right instead of upgrading two or three times.
