Deer can run really fast, something belt fed would increase your odds in the thick bush.

While .357 Mag is cool there’s better cartridges out there that will take you beyond 100 yards….. if a lever gun is your fancy, think about a bottleneck cartridge combination, maybe leaning towards a rotary or box magazine…….
