My 2 Rem 700 projects is falling in place
Got a long and a short action....Anyone needs Rem stocks and barrels btw ?:D
Stocks ,scopes and barrels are ordered
My next step is getting a good gunsmith
I need to print the actions and get sako type of extractor installed.... and oh yeah the blanks

Any recommendations?

Quality works is always good but waiting months(years) to get the work done is different story....

I had my share of experience with the bankrupt local gunsmith..

A guy who can give you references, would actually be able to see his work and gives you a broke down invoice of all charges. I have asked guys who have had work done and have NO idea what the cost break down is. There a lot of people who overpay for what they have had done. I have full blown BR rifles that appear to cost a lot less than what guys pay to have a Rem 700 tricked out. Go figure.

Amen brother!

There are three that come to mind, Bill Leaper and Dennis Sorenson..........and another one that I use but can't pass out his info as I don't know if he still wants to take on more work outside of the circle so to speak.

Dennis will answer all your questions by email, and steer you in the right direction

Dennis won't be installing Sako extractors for sure.
You don't really need them on a 700 bolt.

Even if you want a 700 PPC boltface you could get PT&G bolts with an M16 Mini-Extractor.
I've milled a few of those and they are a better solution than the Sako.

- For tactical style rifles I've had work done by ATRS and Tac-Ord - got fully itemised invoices and excellent rifles that were both genuine sub half-MOA with proper loads and me doing my bit. I've also seen Dennis Sorenson's work and would have no hesitation using him. Am waiting for a build from Sean at North Shore Barrels and hope to be able to say the same.

For F-Class rifles I've had Mick McPhee build 2 and would trust him with another for sure.

I have had work done by Sean at North Shore Barrels now on three different rifles. One was a Savage, the other two are Remington 700s. I only have shooting experience with two of them at this point as the third rifle just showed up yesterday and I am still waiting on reloading components to get it out for a range trip. The first two were great shooters, legitimate 0.5 MOA when I was doing my job right. I have been pleased with his work so far, he seems to do a very good job and his prices are reasonable too. He can source a lot of after market parts for your build, ie: barrels, stocks, rails, lugs, etc.

I am sure there are other very good guys out there to deal with too that could get your work done just as well but I have no experience with anyone other than Sean so far. Good luck with your build!

Denis Sorenson rebarreled, chambered, headspaced, and reblued one of my small ring custom Mauser 98's. His work is impeccable.

The afor mentioned smithws have a good reputation, and as was mentioned the sako extractor has fallen out of favor as it never was needed. Don`t overlook the Sask. made barrels by Ted Gaillard. Good luck with the project.

get sako type of extractor installed....

I am always interested in knowing - why would you want to alter the bolts and have a Sako type of extractor installed? What do you know about this conversion?

Maybe I'm hopping on the wagon a bit late but Dennis Sorensen (guntech) has done quite a bit of work on my stuff in the past and work is perfect ! Turn aroud time is amazing, he's a one man show and never takes on more work then he can handle . My next build when all my parts are here is goi g to him with our a doubt !

100% agreed with Tomochan! You will wait with some and not with others but reasoning for late deliveries are acceptable. You pay for sub moa with both time and money.

Yup get it into Sorenson in victoria before he stops taking work. He gets crustier and crustier every time i talk to him lol

I am very happy with Sean at North Shore Barrels:D I had a Rem 700 action trued then mounted on a 18.5 " Broughton 1-10 twist in .308 I would not hesitate to have him build me another it shoots very well and have shot it out to 1000 yards so far:D
