I shoot a CZ 452 American in .22 Long Rifle and i was wondering what is the best high velocity ammo everyone uses. I like to shoot CCI Stingers because they are to my knowledge the most powerful .22 round but thier accuracy sucks at 85 yards. Right now i shoot Federal game shok 40 grain solids. just wondering what everyone else shoots???

You would probably find Velocitors to be one of the best. If I remember right they have the most retained energy down range. They are still doing 1084fps @ 100 yards. Stingers are 1066fps @ 100 yards, but are 36gr, the Velocitors are 40gr. I find CCI ammo to be very clean, which is a plus.

For me it would be hands down Winchester Powerpoints. Exceptionally accurate 40 grain hollow point (very bit hollow point I might add) at around 1250fps I think at a good price. If you can find them, give them a try :)

Every once in a while you will run into a certain 22 LR ammo that works exceptionally well in one or more of your rifles. The WW Powerpoints that cz452shooter mentioned are generally good, as are the velocitors. I bought a quantity of a HV offering manufactured by PMC back a number of years before PMC was copper plating their HV ammo. This was the most accurate HV ammo I have ever shot, and not just in one rifle, but in several. I have hoarded a couple of bricks of that ammo just for special purposes, and it still amazes me. Granted it is not Eley Ultimate EPS match, but it really is good when you consider that I paid $135.00 for a case of the stuff. Regards, Eagleye.

I remember buying some PMC back around 91 or so that seemed to be pretty good. The price was decent too.

I still have all the various ammos I bought to see what my 1022 liked and settled on the Minimags. My CZ loves the Minimags(HP) but seems to be fond of the Velociters too. Good thing too cuz I have a couple of bricks. The CZ seems to prefer the CCI stuff over pretty much everything else as did the Ruger.

Velocitors hands down, the most accurate and consistent hi-power round. They are actually more powerful than stingers at 100yards, check this

104 ft-lbs of energy at 100 yards . Thats pretty damn good for a .22 rimfire cartridge.

I'll have to get some, I was always using the Stingers. One thing about Stingers though, even though its a 32 grain hollow point bullet, they have excellent penetration ability.

They will penetrate small trees quite easily where most 40 grainers will not.

I had read lots of good things about the winchester PP's so when I seen them in wal-m rt I picked up 3 100 rd boxes. And I have to say these gotta be way different than what they used to be like, because they were GARBAGE, and if the old PP's shot like these no one would like them.

I found them to be very incosistant in power, you would get 3-4 with a good crack to them and then you would get a real dull sounding one or two, also they would not group well at all. On top of that they were very dirty, I had better luck with a 500 pack of dynapoints that I bought at the sametime. With the dynapoints you'd get a few dull sounding ones but they all seemed to group decent for bulk pack stuff.

For $6.97 per 100 the PP's are definatly NOT worth it.

P.S. It wasn't only me who had trouble with them as a few different people at our range had some and no one like them.

Also I'm not doubting you cz452 I'm sure you have had good luck but whats out there now is junk.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck with them. The PP I was talking about were the older ones in the grey 50 round boxes - haven't tried the new ones yet. The old powerpoints though in my CZ would constantly shoot around .3"CTC - .4" CTC at 50 yards and about the same through my Ruger. They worked well for time being (until I started shooting Eley Match EPS and Lapua SC which are basically in another class) - but they became very hard to find.

Sounds like the Velocitors might be the way to go now :)

I'll answer this question like I have several times before. The best HV ammo for you is the one your gun likes the best. Several ammos may have better energy at further distances, but if your gun doesn't like them, it makes little difference. I have about 14 .22's and I think maybe 2 like Velocitors. Sure it is a great round if your gun likes it, but if it sprays it like a shotgun, there is little point in buying it. Buy a bunch of different HV ammos, go sit at the range for a day, and find out which one shoots best at 50, then 100 yds. Whichever one you find is the best, that will be the best one for you. Just my .02.
