Good day,
Hope your summer is going well. I recently bought a new barrel c/w chokes for my Mossberg 500 so I can shoot steel shot and hunt geese / ducks with it,I will be doing a fair bit of skeet, trap shooting for practice.
I am not sure I am a fan of the basic ,cheap wrench style chokes that came with it. I have seen and heard of the chokes becoming unremovable.
I believe you can get extended chokes with a knurled surface for easier removal. I am looking for input/suggestions. I would like to get a quality set as this will be my only hunting shotgun for awhile.
Thank's in advance,
Ken

Google Als corner store they carry a good selection of Carlson chokes . there is also Briley ,truelock ,patternmaster ,wadwizard ,muller .

You are looking for Extended style choke tubes. I have had good experience with Trulock and Briley. You can also use choke tube lubricant, such as supplied by Briley. That will prevent your tubes from becoming rusted in place and will also help them stay tight in the barrel.

I wouldn't worry about it. Put the Imp. Cyl. choke in and you can almost forget about it. Good for skeet, upland game, ducks & geese over decoys. About the only thing you'd be handicapped at is trap.

The choke tube could become unremovable if it is poorly lubricated. Th OEM tubes are OK for your Mossberg. Be sure you have a good high pressure grease on the threads of your choke tube before you screw it in. Then there is no reason why a tube should stick.

Factory chokes are fine, grease them with a light grease and they will not rust or stick. Before wasting $$ on aftermarket chokes pattern what your gun came with then decide if you want something else.

The bore of a mossberg 500 would not be concentric so putting high quality chokes really would not gain you any improvement in its patterning ability .

I've used Winchokes in my Winchester 101 pigeon grade for some 25 years with threads greased... never had one stick. Mostly, I just finger tighten them (need strong fingers!) For skeet (American or International) I mostly use skeet & skeet chokes, sometime mod & mod for a real challenge! For sporting I now use modified all the time. Actually, I'd like to find some extended chokes that would fit the Winchoke system in order to extend the barrels a bit (they are too short at 27 1/4 inches.)
I need a 30 inch 686!
Cheers
