Best LH O/U for trap and skeet?

Hey guys,

I shot my first game of trap the other week and really enjoyed it. I used my Versa Max tactical and got a score of 15. I'm interested in getting a dedicated trap and skeet gun to use in the future. My home range is pretty lax and doesn't have any barrel length minimums to shoot. However, some other ranges in my area have a 28" minimum barrel requirement so I'm looking at getting an O/U to shoot when I go to those ranges.

What would you guys recommend looking into for a LH shooter who wants to shoot trap and skeet?

Slow down Hoss.

Do not drop any of your inflated currency until you have hugged a few B guns.

I would suggest that you talk to one those knowledgeable horrible old geezer's that the liberal party of canada has vilified on another thread.

Actually the gentlemen are very nice contrary to what is said on the thread.

Try other guy's guns for feel and fit. The wife swapping portion of buying a gun.

Seriously, do not dump a pile of money on something you will regret, and some shyster will buy off you for next to nothing laughing at you as some sort of mook.

Changing a RH gun to a LH gun is really just changing the stock, or do LH guns have the lever going the opposite direction? LH stocks should be readily available for Brownings and Berettas and less so for anything else.

Who sells those stocks and how much does that add to a three thousand to four thousand gun? And then you have to pay a competent gunsmith another huge amount. And hope the hell it fits.

Total Cost.

Hello golf course. They are cheaper.

Most B guns can be had with LH or RH stocks. In most cases on those guns it just means the palm swell is either side as the stocks have neutral cast and are supplied with adjustable combs so the shooter can set his preferred cast. The levers only push to the right to open and guess what? There is no cost difference other than the difference they charge for a fixed comb stock over one with an adjustable comb so no need to take up golf unless you love a sport that is as exciting as watching paint dry!!

I would not recommend a dedicated trap gun for skeet as trap guns are designed to shoot high and trying to float a crossing target on stations 2-6 on the skeet field can be a lesson in futility with a high gun. If you want something that can cover both games then look into something like a Browning Citori CX with adjustable comb as you will get a good value based reliable target gun that can cover most games for you as a casual fun shooter.

Citori CX White with Adjustable Comb - O/U Shotgun - Browning

Citori CX Adjustable Comb - Over & Under Shotgun - Browning

This is what I am currently using for trap. As you can see there is a huge difference in the features and setup of a dedicated trap gun..

Citori 725 Trap Max - Over & Under Shotgun - Browning

Like Spank says, Trap and Skeet are two very different games and a dedicated trap gun is generally not well suited to the skeet range and vica versa. There's another shotgun game called sporting clays and I would recommend you get a gun designed for that sport as it can be used for trap and skeet as well as the odd hunting trip if you so desire as well. As already stated, Browning and Beretta make left handed sporting clays guns but you need to try a few out before handing over your cash!

Well, you did ask about the Best....here is one of many very good guns for the task you seek.

Just offering it up as an option. No need to get huffy.

Please forgive me if you thought of my post as huffy. I am told that my messages can be misunderstood sometimes by fellow CGN members.

Sorry if you took it that way. I should get away from writing in a business like manner, and be more friendly.

Very late reply…

A true LH Citori, with the opening lever going the correct way, can be found here.
Palmswell and Cast both appear to suit lefties too.

I’ve not found one with a high Trap rib.

Well, I dug around a bit more on the Browning website and could only find this discontinued ‘left-hand’ 725 Trap—which isn’t really a LH gun.

But, I did find a true LH 725 Trap here.
Of course, my criterion is simply which way the opening lever goes, as I think this is the biggest challenge of designing a true LH gun. The cast and palmswell are probably the easy parts.

Browning does have a LH 725 Sporting with a high rib, but I think the geometry of the stock is different from the 725 Trap.
