Sure I'd love to have a NightForce 5.5-22x50 but at kicking around 2k not gonna happen right now.

From what I have read for most long distance shooting about the X20-X25 max magnification is more then plenty.

the 2 I have seen are either then Sightron SIII SS 6-24X50 or a Bushnell ELITE 6500 4.5-30x50.
I left the price tag at sub 1200 just cause a LEUPOLD might be able to slide in but I would like to see the price tag closer to 1k.

One more question since I am starting to side towards a Sightron is it better to go with a MOA reticle rather then a milldot since the turrets are only in MOA? I Would rather a milldot but I'm not sure how annoying the conversions would be.

I'd pick a Tasco Super Sniper fixed 16x or 20x before I would use a Leupold Variable - based on my experience with those choices. I have not used the Leupold "Tactical" scopes though.

(I suppose you could pay a lot more for a SS if you insisted your scope be handled by some wholesalers, importers and regional distributors ... and a lot of media advertising etc etc ... they are a pretty good deal for what you get)

That Viper looks promising, the reviews are good and seem to win out over similarly prices scopes. The Mil/mil combination is nice so no conversions needed.
This on I think has just bumped the bushnell out of the running so either the Viper or the Sightron look to be in the top spots.

Anyone have a good source on the Viper (Vortex optic), I looked quickly through many of the sponsors and no one seemed to have it on there site (although I am sure some could order it in but I like knowing the price during the window shopping phase)

It looks like one of the supporting dealers, Camera Land NY, has them. Link is 2nd from the left, top row of the banner.

I'd be interested to hear what you purchase and a review, if possible. I have very similar criteria to you for an upcoming scope purchase.

What ever I end up getting I will certainly do a review, but it looks like I wont be picking up a scope from Camera Land NY.

"Rifle Scopes can ONLY be shipped to US, New Zealand, & Australia."

It poped up only once I added it to the cart. (test add, I'm not 100% on what to get yet I would still like to hear some more opinions)

Any other recommended sources, and opinons on this range of scopes?

Just found one site that sells it in Canada
http://www.grouseriver.com/Vortex_Viper_PST_6_24x50_FFP_p/opt-000297.htm
and here is the list of Canadian Dealers (through only one online dealer has that scope)

I never understood why 'Camera Land ' is even a CGN sponsor , sell s**t that you 'can't sell' on a board you sponsor ????

I'm sure CGN appreciates the sponsor, but they won't ship to Canada (period), they're advertising on deaf ears. Now if at the very least, they'd accept export orders, like Brownells... they'd probably get a lot of business from canucks - they have a very well laid-out website (too bad I do my research on their site, but have to give someone else the money).

i have a vortex diamondback on my .270 and i think its clearer then a leupold and the warranty is pretty good i broke a turret and they just gave me a new scope over the counter (wholesale sports)

I was wondering about Wholesale sports, it was on their distributor list but their site does not have any vortex's on it at all.
Gonna have to take a wander through there location (I'm from Edmonton which has their largest location so if any one of thiee locations will have it I am sure that one will)

i always thought they could sell bino's and spotting scopes to canada?

and if they can't sell anything up here like you say, then they should be commended even more for spending their hard earned dollars on keeping this site going:)

Natures corner store carries the Vortex line, they are on 51st Ave and 95th street in Edmonton. They brought in the binos and spotting scopes for thier bird watching customers and the rifles scopes cause I wanted to see what they look like. They carry examples of all levels and will be getting the real wizzy ones in the next little while or so.

I have a Vortex Viper 6.5-20 that I like for hunting and I had a Sightron SIII 6-24 that I used for target shooting. I like them both, my next target scope will be a Sightron SIII 10-50x60.

Does anyone have any hands on experience with the new Vortex PST 6-24 FFP?

This looks like a decent scope for the money provided it is as advertised.

Thanks

I have been in touch with Vortex Opics Canada, and the Viper PST will bot be available until late July. :( I am waiting for one myself, but I currently have a Vipers in 6.5-20X50 BDC, 3-9X40, 2-7X32, a Diamondback 4-12X40, Crossfires in 2.5-10X50, 4-16X50 Illuminated Mil Dot, and a SPARC red dot. All have performed flawlessly with no issues at all. I would highly reccomend the Vortex line. (Obviously!) :)

If it would be $1250 I'd have one:cool:

Unless this is a counterfeit or something, this should be good. Would be a bit more than 1250, but it's still not like 2k.
