All: I am looking for a Mossberg 590. While I prepare for that, I am wondering if I have the right lube for it for a dry, dusty, subarctic climate, where we have dust storms when the snow blows away and the sand drifts over the roads...I have Tri-Flow, some no-name black graphite in a tiny tube, WD-40, and a sheep-wax based aerosol--for folding boat parts. Is there something better than this that will work, summer and winter, and not attract dust and dirt?

As westicle noted, use a good "wonder" lube and very little, or none at all. Its a pump gun. not a semi. It will work with little or no lube, dirty or clean. Its not like you accuracy to be concerned about ;)

My prep for most semi/pump shotguns in cold climate, Gas ports cleaned, with a high end gunk out product , and lube is not a factor for the 870 , lots a room , little on the tube , more on the bars, and the amount of sub zero lubes out there , you won't travel far. A clean bore no lube req'd . And very little if any in the trigger assembly.

Tear the gun down, clean it. Lube it with a modern synthetic like BreakFree CLP. Let it sit for a bit, and then wipe it off with a clean cotton cloth. You will still be leaving enough of a film to protect and lube, but not attract a lot of dirt.

I've seen CLP bring pump actions back from the dead.
