Argh, Deke's Tikka/CZ thread reminded me again that I really want a Mannlicher stocked rifle.

as far as i know there are three choices in the sub-$1000 range:
Ruger M77 Mark II International
Ruger #1 International (single shot)
CZ 550 FS
i would most likely be looking for one in .30-06.

anyone have any recommendations either way?
accuracy, fit and finish, design are all very important to me. i am very satisfied with the Ruger M77 action, however i have never owned one of their full-length Mannlicher stocked rifles so i am unsure of how accurate they are. ill most likely stick with the iron sights unless i can find a classic styled 4x scope.

I had a Ruger M77 International in 30-06 and I liked it very much. It was very light and quite accurate for the style. I probably could have got 1" groups out of it if I would have tried. I also liked the action. I wish I wouldn't have sold it.

Stop.... Can't take it..... Must not see posts with awesome looking rifles that I am afraid to take into woods.....

Stop.....

Why piss around, go straight for an early Brno model 22 with a full stock or an EARLY Mannlicher.
Then you can tease the rest of us with your photo's.

I don't think anything can compare with the orig. Mannlicher, if you can't afford one...look for a used one. i like the style but don't care for some of the ones with tooo much Germanic stock abnormalities, like carving game scenes, weird monte carlos, multi faceted cheek pieces, etc.

Anyone who has handled a fullstocked Husqvarna will tell you that they are head and shoulders above most other fullstocked rifles. Husqvarna had it exactly right when they produced this model in my opinion.

264...would you please be so kind as to post some pictures of a full-stocked Husqvarna.
Thank you, J Stuart.

I have or have had several of these stocked rifles in various barrel lengths and makes.
My go to gun is my Steyr-Mannlicher Model L chambered in 308.
I have yet to find a deal on a Brno, but will definitely pick one up.
I have had 2 Ruger's one an early Model 77 Tang Safe and the later 77 Mkll.
Fit and finish on both are great. Both shot well.
MBP- if you are looking for one of these fine sporting rifles, I have a F.W. Heym in 30-06 I may be talked into parting with...;)

Ruger 77 rsi is a good light weight rifle. have one in7-08.Just found a CZ 550 FS .308 ,hav'nt had time to put it throught its paces. Think that with it's heavier bbl. it will sing for it's owner. Soon Steve.

Old Sakos

I also love the look of the full length stocks. I found a couple of old Sakos that have this look. One is in 30.06 AIII, with a full length squared bottom forend, and the other is in .338 win mag, with a rounded bottom forend. They come up in the used market every couple of years or so, and are usually in really good condition. I think this because the owner loves the look of them so much, he takes really good care of them. Good luck with your search!

+2, I handled one at the range last year, fricken sweet! :)

i imagine if you had alot of money the steyr, blaser,or merkel would be fantastic rifles but for the average man on a budjet i would say the ruger or CZ or if you can find a old win model 70 manlicher would be the way to go
