I recently acquired a Remington 783 16 1/2” barrel in 300 BLK. I intend to shoot nothing but cast and PC bullets out of it. Main use will be paper punching and off hand practice at say 100 yds. I tried the Lee C309-150-F sized to .310 but have had poor results with it. I mainly tried it cause that’s what I have on hand as that’s what I use in my 30-30s. I’ve used BLK, 296, 1680, Bullseye, Unique and Tightgroup all with poor results.
Buddy gave me some of his Lee TL309-230-5R also PC sized to .310. My research on Cast Boolits says it’s not very accurate either. Tried BLK, 1680. Accuracy was poor.
I’ve had good luck with 165 SP Hornady using BLK and 1680 at 50 yards but not acceptable accuracy at 100. I had very good results with 150 SP Hornady at 100 using BLK. I’ve used these bullets cause again that’s what I have on hand.
My research mainly on Cast Boolits once again indicates guys are having good success with the Lee C312-155-5R.
So after all that I’m curious to know what you casters are using to have acceptable accuracy using cast bullets in a 1/7 twist and what’s your load. I’m not looking to use gas checks if I can help it. Not too worried if it sub sonic as I’m pretty sure use of a can not going to change anytime soon given what’s just happened.
