Best Muzzle Brake for SKS

I like the bolt on NC Star. Its functional and when installed with some loctite it won't go anywhere.

I suggest doing a search. This topic seems to come up every few weeks.

this is an NcStar Short Brake ... never had a problem with it yet.

The bolt on one works fine If you tap a hole through the center of the removable clamp piece so that it bears on the barrel, otherwise they loosen.
The pin on one is the one I'd go with.

How about the AKS74 muzzle ? Is this one good ?
I think this one must be the loudest especially when you
are next to it !!!
You can have them, threaded, clamp or pin...

I think that the AK74 style one rocks.

Those are nice, I used one on my first SKS build and the hex screws rounded out on me and could never get it tight. Ended up drilling out the screws and getting rid of it. Aluminum screws and steel cast muzzlebrakes don't mix, but that's NCStar for you ... lol. The pic above with the short brake is mine, and if I could have found AK74 style pin on, I would have used that one instead. But I would never use or recommend a bolt on one to anybody.

I wish a gunsmith company would offer threading for these rifles to the same pattern as the 858 platform do to the easy to find muzzle breaks. Although in the mean time the best bet is the pin 1's for now.

I havent used them but CNCWarrior.com offers die starters for left and right M14x1 dies with the proper pilot dia. for x39 bbls and 5/8x24 with proper pilot for .308 bbls. good pricing and he ships to Canada apparently. lots of cool brakes comps and fh's too

The best way is to thread the barrel.
But i don't no how it cost for an sks...
Maybe 65-120$ ???
BUT its only an SKS so i think the wise choice is to go with the pin-on style...
Unless someone tell me there is a place they thread them for 50$...
Just my 2 cents

I think i will order my ak74 muzzle soon

Not sure how much threading you could get onto the front of the SKS barrel. I've never looked into doing it myself, I think you would have to remove the front sightbase/bayo mount in order to get the muzzle brake on and indexed properly. And then modify the slip on bayo mount/front site to make it shorter. Sounds like more work than is necessary, I'd stick with the pin on ones.

i picked up the pin on ak74 style from sksman. i really like the look of it, and the price was right. only thing was it will take some filing to fit over my front sight.

Fyn you mean its not a tight fit between the barrel and the muzzle ?
If so you have to put shims between the two.
Wich is -1 but still the best option.

Lets talk about threading... ;)
For an sks you must choose between M14X1 LH and M14X1 RH like the Yugo's
From what i saw, you can find all models of muzzle for LH and RHanded threads !

Please, send photos for me to understand.
If its too tight, by how much it is ??? If you have something to take measurents of course !!!

I considered one of the ncstar ones, but besides looks, I don't think it actually helps much with the minimum recoil of the sks

Heh heh .. the one I use, pictured above. When I fire it, the recoil rearward is minimal, but the brake actually forces the barrel down so that I have to raise the barrel for my next shot .. lol
