I'm thinking of getting a new semi and I'm not really sure which one to get. I like the quality and reputation of the 10/22 but for my own reasons, I don't want a long cumbersome clip hanging off the bottom. I know you can get those smaller 5 rnd'ers but that's not really enough for a semi. .17 or .22 is ok. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Look for an old .22 with a barrel magazine.
Mossberg, Winchester/Cooey, Savage, Marlin, etc etc.

There where popular back in the early days.

Some are fed through the butstock via the side of it or the back, or fed under one attached to the underside of the barrel.

Both my Old Mossberg .22's have them, and they work great. :)

"10/22 but for my own reasons, I don't want a long cumbersome clip hanging" the 10/22 has a ten round mag that does't hang out, i think the rem 597 in 22LR is a flush 10 rounder as well, the 597 in 17HMR is a 6 or 7 rounder that is flush also....

X2 I thought I was the only one that was going to say this
With the factory 10 round mag the 10/22 doesn't stick out at ALL buy 2 of them (guns that is )

Marlin model 60. Real good for the price. Comes in stainless too. It can be had for Between $175-280 depending on the model.

This is the one I'd go with:

I have an old Savage /Stevens 64B with tube load holds 17 shorts / 15 longs and cut off bolt for one shot at a time...quite accurate... also had a cooey.was ok

Remington 552 speedmaster!!!
The best currnetly produced tube fed semi 22 ever. IMO and many others.
15 rounds 22lr, 25 shorts. It can shoot all .22 rounds interchagebly (noMag).
It functions flawlessly even with junk ammo. Very fast shooter and shoots very flatly. not a lot of bounce so follow up shots are easy.
The only thing i did to mine was make a slight adjustment to the trigger spring and added a williams peep.
For cleaning it takes down exactly the same as an 870 more or less.
Only thing is a lot of people dont like the look of it. I do though. I like the gallery gun look. This thing is soo much fun and worth the money if you want to spend a little more.

First off they're not CLIPS they're magazines. Second, a "barrel magazine" is called a tubular magazine, which is a fixed or non detachable magazine.

Both terms "Barrel Magazine", and "Tubular Magazine" are correct as this is what they where marketed as in the day, and while the Barrel Magazine part is fixed, the follower is not, and is removable.

I wish people weren't so anal about calling magazines clips. I've always called them clips and don't feel the need to change anytime soon. everybody knows what I'm talking about. It's like some grammar geek telling you how to compose the perfect sentence.......The nylon 66 get's my vote.

Does the Marlin 60 come up in the ee forums often? I looked into the different model 60s and Id only go for the 60ss. I love the wood grain look.

Its not about being anal its about being intelligent. We all took the course so we should all know the PROPER terms. Maybe I should start calling peoples wifes their #####. Everyone knows what I mean why change....

On a practical note. By using the proper terms you actually sound like you're well educated/trained in the sport you participate. Not to mention it's a good indicator when it comes to those who actually shoot and those who act like they do. (I'm not saying you don't shoot) Those who act like they shoot often use hollywood slang and talk ####. Terms like "fully automatic" "banana CLIP" and "assault rifle" are key indicators that the person is a complete ass hat and deserves no more of my time.
