I'm looking for opinions on the best .308 military style semi - NON RESTRICTED - Looking at m1 / m14 styles

I know this might cause a stir but I'm trying to educate myself on the options available. Quality Iron sights are a must.

I've looked at Norinco's but for $550 how much do you get? How much extra $$ do you put into these guns?

Don't judge the m14s by its price. Its a great rifle to shoot with iron sights and if there's something wrong with yours and you bought from Marstar, there is a warranty.

m14, BAR, robarms .308 xcr (price will be stupid), and the kel-tec rfb all of cousre must have non rest length barrels

Get a Norc or Poly M14.
They have alot of versatility. You can leave it bone stock and it will run just fine, you can spend a few bucks and change the spring guide and shim the gas system, or you can do a full on custom build.

Whatever you do stay away from Springfield!! I have owned several over the years and have recently switched to a Polytech that was a full on custom build and I got a way better rifle for less money ($2050 all in) than the price of a base model Springfield (2250 all in). I am never going back to the M1A.

If you can find a nice properly done Garand .308 conversion in the EE go for it but it might be spendy. A .30cal Garand would do you just fine also but ammo is just a bit more expensive.

If you're after bang for buck, stock norc/poly is your best bet. You can always upgrade it a bit at a time if you want to.

Mild tuning of the bone stock Norinco can be done on a budget that nets real improvements in accuracy.
Norinco M14 by a long shot for value for money.

As was mentioned, the Norinco or Polytech M-14 rifles will give you the best bang for your buck.

However, if you have a much larger budget, I see that Questar is bringing the FN FNAR in now for $2199, so it's another option to possibly consider.

Morinco M14S (M305, whatever).

Great gun. Can be made quite accurate for cheap (already mentioned. I had the gas system unitized for $20. I bedded a USGI fiberglass stock for it for under $20 too. Shoot great, and is plenty of fun. I use mine for target shooting and deer hunting.

Forgot to mention I bought a 3rd Gen scope mount for it (hello loctite). This makes it a pleasure to shoot.

:agree:

a little time will net you a great gun for cheep ... local shop in Edmonton ( Milarm ) sells an alluminum stock for the 14 ... solidifies the gun up nice ... makes it look bad ass also.

Marstar is also in the process of making some Italian made M14's that are supposed to be high quality. I think I remember a few weeks ago that Marstar was expecting the samples to arrive from the factory for testing... So maybe in a few months we can see these.
