Just in the process of purchasing an Accuracy International AX .338LM and am curious as to what scopes you guys are using/are the best. Cost isn't really a concern. I shoot out to 1000+ yards and am wanting to get into F class shooting.

Not even sure if you can, you would have to check the rules but I am sure someone here can answer that. Brakes are also not allowed in F Class, even if you were allowed to shoot a 338 LM it wouldn't be much fun. YMMV.

Good Evening

Your tactical scope will work for F class no problem The builder of Tangent theta uses a 3x15 at matches all the time... a couple of well known brothers in f class use 25x powdered scopes.
your 338 is prohibited because of bullet dia not cartridge size, f class bullet limit is 8mm .314. DCRA has speed limits and everyone can conform to the limit but you can't make your 338 bullet smaller

From ICFRA
ICFRA rule f2.2 An ‘F’ Class Open (F/O) rifle may be of any calibre up to and including 8mm and the overall weight must not exceed 10kg including all attachments
(such as, but not limited to, its sights and bipod, if any). NB: An ‘attachment’ is defined as including any external object (other than the competitor, his sling (if any) and
his apparel) which recoils (or partially recoils) with the rifle, or which is clamped, magnetically or viscously held, or in any other
way joined to the rifle for each shot, or which even slightly rises with the rifle when vertically lifting the latter from its rest(s).

If cost really isn't a concern you would be hard pressed to find a better scope then Tangent Theta to compliment your 338LM. 5x25 with 30mrad (103) elevation it will get you well past 1000.

All the best

yup, that, or the NF 55x competition.....

From what I've read the 8mm limit is for the Connaught range in Ottawa, and it may be different elsewhere.

Brakes are definitely not allowed though. LM with no brake?? Eeeeeekkk......

If you went to .300WSM or .300WM in your AI, you'd be good to go for F-Open everywhere.....F-TR is .223 or .308 only.

For 1000 yrd shooting I'm pretty sure S&B, Nightforce, US Optics, and Leupold own that real estate. Other cost-effective options would be Sightron and Bushnell Elite series. Opinions vary however... All are proven reliable with excellent glass.

As has been mentioned 338 is not allowed. Just order a .300 Win mag conversion kit for the AX from AI (barrel, bolt and mag) and you will be good to go.

Can someone clarify is .338 is not allowed ANYWHERE for f-class, or is it range specific?

Thx.

Good Evening

It is world wide i quoted from ICFRA International Confederation of Fullbore Rifle Associations. 8mm is the largest caliber you can shoot F class.

Connaught has a restriction but it is a range template (Speed + BC) if you are shooting x bullet you can only go Y fast. e.g. Shooting F open rifle in 300wsm and decided to use the 215 bergers at a BC .691 you max speed would be speed 2965FPS.

Thanks

I have a flat rail on my 308, and I still got 15 mils of elevation left on my TT525P. Just able barely to hit 1000m with a 308 win. The glass is really superb, had the chance to really take it out and test it at distance. I like the gen2xr reticle, nice and thin at full mag.

For F-Class I use a S+B PmII 12-50. I've also used a NF BR 12-42 and I've used a Sightron Siii 10-50

You will see a pattern- lots of top end magnification. Of course you can use less; many do but I prefer more.

March scopes are very good - I reviewed the 8-80 previously on here - but my favorite remains the S+B.
