Best option for my 12.5" 870?

Hey guys, I'm looking for some input here. I recently have put a DA 12.5" barrel on my 870 12ga. As well as a mesa tactical adapter, with magpul collapsible stock and pistol grip to make a bush gun for camping and the truck.

What I have found is that the Indexing is slightly off on the barrel and I am really not happy with the magpul grip as in colder weather it really beats apart my hand wile shooting 3" magnum buck and slug rounds.

So here are my four options.

1. Buy a new pistol grip such as a hogue grip to replace the magpul grip. Because the Mesa set up is more compact.

2. Buy a hogue 12" LOP stock because it will pack smoother and remove the problems of a pistol grip?

3. Sell the 870 and buy a grizzly 12.5" to solve the indexing problem with already ownedmentioned Mesa stock

4. Sell the 870 and buy a grizzly 12.5 to fix indexing and get a Hogue 12" LOP stock.

What do you guys think is the best option? And is the indexing being off slightly a big deal for a bush/bear gun?

what sortof barrel did you have on the 870 before you installed the grizzly barrel? why not just put it back on, sell the grizzly barrel on the EE, and buy a Grizzly - and have two guns.

That's a good thought as well, I had an 18.5" barrel with a bead sight and a 2 round mag extension on it.

I'm moving to BC for the summer so I was hopeing to have some thing to take hiking with me out there.

I do a lot of bushwork and have ended up with an 870, 12.5'' Grizzly barrel, and a Hogue 12'' LOP stock. The perfect setup IMO. I got lucky with mine and do not have any indexing issues, but again IMO its not the end of the world for this type of application. The whole intent is for short range, bear/animal defense and firing in this situation is more reflex that calm/cool range shooting. That being said, TRAINING is extrememly important if you are carrying. Anyway, thats my rant, I voted for the same setup as I have, as a bare pistol grip is useless IMO, and the 'tactical' setups are a pain the a$$ to carry IMO. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the response buzzard! And that is good to hear about actually working in the bush with it. I decided to be a little crafty and took the stock Remington plastic stock my 870 came with and cut off about 2" from the LOP. So it's on par with the hogue stock now. I wanted to try out the free option before I spent the money. So far playing mirror commando I really like the short stock. I'll keep my eyes open for a hogue.

when you say the indexing is slightly off, dose it effect your shooting/accuracy at all or is it just a cosmetic issue?

I don't feel like it effects it much, when I sight down the barrel the bead seems to be off to the left by a degree or two. Not the biggest issue, I treat it like a scatter gun any ways.

The Knoxx recoiling stocks work well for those with magnum issues.
No one ever moves to BC. Its a terrible place.
