best pistol for production div.

best = whichever fits your hand the best.

For some it's a baby eagle, for others it's a glock, for some it's an SP01, for others it's a beretta, etc, etc, etc, etc....

If there is some pistol out there which has an auto-aim and auto-fire feature, I'm not aware of it. Beyond that, whatever gun makes it the easiest FOR YOU with YOUR eyes, YOUR body, and YOUR hands/fingers get the most As in the shortest amount of time, is the best production gun, for you.

The best gun changes daily.

Monday - Glock 17
Tuesday - Glock 22
Wednesday - CZ-75
Thursday - SP01
Friday - XD-9
Saturday - M&P 9mm
Sunday - None of the above

Find one that works for you and learn to shoot it.

What the heck kind of un-opinionated answer is that anyway? He wants to know what the BEST is. Surely everyone in production is shooting the exact same gun, the BEST, of course. Surely no-one is using second rate equipment, the NOT QUITE AS GOOD AS THE BEST?

Sorry, I think I just saw the word BEST one too many times....... I'll leave quietly now......

Maybe,
he should ask which gun is most popular in Production IPSC?

I am not Production shooter, but I guess lots of guys shoot Glocks,
CZ, now SP01, Tangfolios, there is some following with Beretta, of course
XD9, I have seen Sig 226, the list is long :)

You are all a bunch of comedians.....I have a couple of the best guns too and they fit me really well. My definition of best gun for production for those of you who get it would be a gun that doesn't jam, can hit a bz at 25, has a sweet trigger like my Shadows, and has no recoil and very little muzzle flip and excellent sight recovery. I've never shot a Sig or an HK or a Sphinx or a Tanfoglio. So, is there another gun out there that can compete with the CZ SP01 ?

Re: Sp01 and Tanfoglio . I have had both (actually, still do until I transfer the shadow). SA on Shadow is better. Out of the box the Tan Stock2 has lighter DA, but that changes once you get the light hammer spring for the Shadow. I think the DA reach on the Tan is better, as it is shorter, less reach. The mag opening on the tan is better as well. After only 500rds the Tan trigger is smoothing out. I think I like the recoil on the Tan better, as I have shot the same ammo thru both. I thought the CZ was a big improvement over the HK USP (for recoil, which it is). When I shot the stock2, the first rounds made me think, "did I just fire underpowered ammo? " No joke, it does feel like a .22:eek: BTW, my ammo is 147gr combatmasters, at approx. 133-134 pf.

Maurice,
so you are saying that in your case Tan Stock II works well and it justifies high tag price for that pistol?

Maybe. Depends on what you want to settle for......and your budget.
I bought an Edge after I looked and studied a bit on a reliable .40 that is good to go... I could have got a USP Expert, which i had every intention of getting. I think the Edge hard chromed was prettier. Both are reliable, and good shooters. I have USP's, so I decided to get something I had admired and wanted and try out another type of firearm. You can almost buy 2 Sp01's. for the price of the tan Stock 2, but I like the looks and now I like the feel of the Tan over the CZ. The Tan worked great and only 2 mags need slight tweaking. Not unlike the CZ. The Tan mags can get dirty and I feel they would still work well. The CZ factory 10rd mags are not good to go if they get a little sand in them.
Hk is VERY reliable and accurate- But, not as forgiving for recoil or messing up on trigger control. With the heavier tan stock2, I was jokingly back at 25yards, and decided to shoot some metal plates, strong hand.....ping, ping, ping ping ping, ping:eek: Impressive.

BTW, I think my hands/ trigger finger were tired yesterday. I picked up the Tan just a while ago to clean it, and dryfired a few times. The Trigger is easier and feels like it is working in better.

Maurice: It sounds like we look for the same things in a pistol.....my SP01 is very forgiving in regards to slightly sloppy grip and trigger finger. I practice strong hand and weak hand on the plates at 25 yds too, the slick trigger makes it not real hard to do.......can you get aftermarket springs for the Tan to reduce trigger pull?

not sure if they are legal for production, but some are available from Wolf Springs. Just cleaned some mags. Very easy to clean. I used piece of paper towel with some break-free on it. All residue wiped off. Viola, clean.

Wolf springs are not OEM, so they are not OK for IPSC PD. The only acceptable non OEM parts are sights, grip tape, magazines and grips.

They are acceptable in USPSA PD.

This is true, you can modify the hell out of non OEM magazines as long as they maintain the same overall length as the OEM mags. Want to shave a followER? Ok on a non OEM mag. want to change springs? Ditto.
Of course, Vince is working on a 15 round loaded rule for IPSC PD, which will kill one of the reasons for going non OEM if it gets up.

15 round rule is stupid. especially since most of the new breed of semi's hold more anyhow. Hell even the Glock will hold 17 and has for how long?

I'm personally in favour of leaving it alone myself. Regulating us out of existence is the Govts. job, not IPSCs.
He's suggested this in the past and it didn't get up, I doubt it will in the future. It requires a general assembly decision, not a rules interpretation.

Great, we already know how hard it is to count to 10 from shooting production in the US and Canada. Now they want to try and make RO's count to 15?
