Hi there. Im looking at buying an SKS. Just need some help with where to buy it. Cabelas here in Calgary has them for $259 does anyone have any comments on their SKS's or can recommend a better place to get one? Also interested in a Yugo M59. Thanks for the help. -Bow

I picked up a non-refurb for $225 from canadian tire in shawnessy (sw calgary). I don't think that they have any non refurbs (i got lucky), but some are really nice for the price.

Somewhere you can look at it before you buy it. Don't just buy it blindly on-line, vendors or otherwise. All that's left is crap, and that's what you'll get.

Plus one! Calgary should be a good place to find a decent SKS. Russian SKS are what is commonly available right now and there is no difference in what
you will get from store to store, you might find one that is a little better looking than the rest but they are all fairly good mechanicaly.

Thinking about picking up a Yugo myself, they seem considerably beefier than the ruskie ones. At any rate I would say buy them cheap while you can, there has been a few vendors warning of higher prices inside a couple months. Getting hard to find blued ones in MB, crappy tire here only has bbq painted for $250! But hell I've already got 3. Lol

the calgary shooting centre has a handful of very nice ones for 325 in a crate that you can hand pick from. i picked one up a few days ago, in heavy cosmoline all matching including the magazine, all the accessories and appears to be non refurbished.
that price might seem high but it won't be long the normal ones will be that price

Went to Canadian Tire and Cabelas today to look at SKS. Saw 4 SKS at Canadian tire and the were in rough shape. Knicks and scuffs on the stocks and metal looked rough as well. They had 4 in stock, price was $229. Decided to pass and head to Cabelas. At Cabelas I saw 3 SKS, and one of them was very nice, so put it on hold. Price is $259. The rifle was drenched in cosmoline, so if I decide to buy it may have to spend some time and money cleaning it up.

Which ct? The one in shawnessy had at least 2 dozen last time I was there a couple weeks ago... Any sks you buy from a store will most likely need to be thoroughly cleaned Anyway. I think the more cosmo the better it's chances of being rust free will be.

Was talking with a friend who wants to buy one. What should he be looking for as for better quality? Is non refurb better than refurb? And how would he tell the diff? One of mine is a 54 Tula and has modern looking numbers laser etched on the barrel, probably a new barrel by the looks of it. Not looking for a collector piece, just mechanically good.

Canadian Tire at Deerfoot City in the NE by the airport had 4 in stock. All were in pretty rough shape. Cabelas ones were much better, for only 30 bucks more I think its worth it.
