Got a Sage EBR chassis for one of my M14s rifles, does anybody in Lethbridge have any experience installing ? Alternatively, who would be a good person to do the install and setup ?

Yeah I had a look at the instructions and they don't seem bad - just wouldnt mind having some more experienced eyes watching for if I mess something up *LOL*

go talk to the guys at section 8 i'm sure they could help you out. i ordered a stock for my sks there and they let me install it in their backroom. they are pretty good guys to deal with and are evetually going to be selling firearms as well, not just airsoft plastic.

I did it my self. Rely not that difficult. pretty straight forward and instructions are easy to follow.
Same with me. I had ZERO previous experience with the M14 rifle and I installed the SAGE by myself. The first time I ever disassembled an M14 was for the SAGE install.

There are tons of resources all over the net that can help. I downloaded an M14 disassembly guide with photos, as well as the SAGE EBR assembly guide, these 2 guides helped me do it in about an hour.
It's a pretty straightforward job.

Plus, your going to have to learn how to take it all apart to clean it one day, so you might as well learn now, at least that was my reason for doing it myself.

Installing the sage is very simple really
First thing to note..... you nor any gunsmith should have NO REASON to remove any material from the Sage chassis for fitment purposes. I only say this because you would not believe what some smiths and do it yerselfers have done to thier 1000.00 stocks with files, dremels and god knows what :D

tools to have on hand
-allen key and castlenut pliers to remove your flash hider
-1/8" punch for removing chinese oprod guide from the barrel
-new 1/8" x 3/4 roll pin in case your chinese one is not re useable (they often split down the middle on removal, source new pin at any hardware store with bulk bins)
- red loctite for the pin if desired, not essential for the sage.
- allen key for the Sage handguard screws and oprod guide
-allen keys for the barrel tension screw and retaining screw at forward end and side of top rail
-rubber mallet to seat the receiver if needed
-small gunsmiths files for removing material from trigger wing and rear contact/bearing surfaces of the trigger group should the trigger not close correctly. This is where i have seen folks remove material from the stock instead of the correct method ..... the trigger group. This only applies to aluminum chassis stocks where filing them to fit would seriouly and permanently affect thier resale value.

pretty straight forward, and remember to fully loosen the barrel tension screw prior to installing the handguard.... and fully tighten the 3 oprod guide screws only once the trigger has been fully seated and locked closed.
for the record, I do not use any loctite on the sage or troy chassis installs other than the oprod guide retaining pin. Contact SAGE or view thier website on correct tensioning of the screws.

I got the stock installed - it was actually easier than I thought. I think it helped that the barrel had been cut and I did not have to deal with the front sight and flash hider. The trigger group fit well, and I have already put about 60rds through.

I do have the problem of the op rod pin walking out occasionally. Either I will replace the pin or add some material to the stock. Where is the best place to get a pin and how easy are they to replace ? I used JB Weld on my USGI stocks but I would hate to do it here.

Drill rod works great
Needs to be 1/8" longer than chinese pin
Or a pin from brownells... Don"t order the NM one, it's chinese length
Or, hot glue a piece of popsicle stick in the stock

A Correction on this.............depending on the contour/weight of the barrel, some material may have to be removed from the upper handguard so that it seats properly.

The Sage EBR Chassis was designed to fit the standard weight M14 barrel. It was not designed to fit with medium or Heavy weight barrels.

I had to take a dremel and remove some material to have the upper handguard seat properly because of the medium weight Smith Enterprise CrazyHorse barrel I used...........Smith Enterprises modified the Sage Chassis so the Medium weight CrazyHorse barrel would fit..........

So for those wanting to come as close as you can to building a CrazyHorse EBR Clone, you have to have a Medium weight barrel...............and you can only come close as there is no longer any way you will get your hands on the real deal CrazyHorse barrel............;)

.

The current model sage ebr stocks DO NOT require clearancing for Krieger DMR , designated marksman , medium weight barrels. I have installed many over the past months. The Crazy horse barrel may be thicker but the chances of aquiring one is like the chance of meeting a real live alien hehehehe
I think sage has addressed this compatability issue with medium contour barrels. I have at least a 1/2 dozen clients who's krieger/sage builds required no dremel or milling for correct fit and barrel/handguard clearance which in turn permits use of the forward tension screw.

Sounds like they have addressed the issue of heavier weight barrels........which is good to know.

The Sage I owned was a first generation model ( one of the first to come into Canada) and would only take a standard contour barrel..............

When in doubt, it might be wise to just give sage a call ;)
But yes, Sage EBR stocks of recent years manufacture fit up just fine with currently availlable medium barrels.
