Ok, so I always hear a million different opinions on the best scopes for the money, and which have the best value for what you pay for, but if money was no option at all what scope do you think has the highest possible quality. Not looking for target scopes with target turrets or 50mm objectives. Keep it to scope lines that have 32mm-44mm objectives and are reasonably light enough to mount on a quality sporting arm.

The problem with a lot of European scopes is having the reticle in the Front Focal Plane. Long story short - I hate FFP. Now the LR guys and tactical-sniper-ninjas will say that I'm just an old Fudd that doesn't understand the vagaries of the FFP reticle, but things are a lot different in the hunting fields of North America versus Taliban country. I don't like how a FFP reticle obscures my view at max power or how it shrinks to almost useless at low power. Another knock against the Europeans is their obsession with 30mm main tubes. Their style of hunting from stands in the dark or damn near dark makes them gravitate toward these wide objective large tube. The added bulk and weight of the larger tube is inconsequential in that type of hunting but for me it obstructs access to the loading port (I prefer floorplate or blind magazine rifles) which is a pain in the backside and adds unnecessary weight to the package.

Now, if zee Germans would build a 1 inch tube, 33mm objective 3-9x scope with the SFP reticle I would be, as the bearded man says, happy happy happy.

I would say that there isn't one great scope above all others, I have seen S&B brake as well as NF, this doesn't mean there no good, it just means they all have there issues. You have to do your home work and compare different features between scopes. That been said I can tell you that USO is what I run and I would say that there just as good as anything else out the including S&B, This doesn't mean it will work for your intended purpose. Best thing I can tell you is to look up "sniper 101" on youtube and watch the optics videos it explains everything in detail an will help you make your selection.

Vince (FFP scopes are KING)

Considering the OP's requirements:

Swarovski Z6 or Z6i 2.5-15x44mm with ballistic turret
or
March 2.5-25x42mm

Hard to beat the Swaro Z6 line for outstanding optical quality, durability, fit & finish, options (illumination, ballistic turret, ballistic reticle...), and the best warranty of all the top tier manufacturers.

Yeah, I don't know how we ever killed anything before FFP became the next best thing.

I personally threw rocks ...

Regarding your first post ... Ii do agree that 50mm+ obj, target turrets and FFP may not work for every one . (Personally I hunt with my LR .308. 5-25x56SB)) but the "hunting" line up of SB scopes , many of them are small obj, and SFP.. But no 1" tubes ..

Just some information if you happened to be avoiding them thinking they are all monstrous tactical style scops

The best scope is one that you don't care if it gets bashed around in the cab of your truck. I have over 10 grand in top quality optics sitting on target guns, but for me a $250 3-9 bushnell does the job and doesn't make me nervous. Besides, 3 grand in glass on top of a $800 rifle shooting factory ammo.........???

Just went through this myself
i just spent 900 on a sightron 8x32x56
so far glass is great had it in the mountains today chasing white tails
in the glare of the snow on a sunny day
6-700 gets you a viper or a sightron 6x24x50
and rifles don't bounce around in the cab of your truck that's oldschool
get a RIFLE CADDY

Nah, I avoid them because I'm nouveau-poor.
