again still new to all this but my friend helping me reload 300 win mag with nozzler 180 gr bullet. what is the best powder to use

thanks

alex

H1000 and IMR7828ssc have always been winners for me in .300 win mag. I have used those powders with 180's, but they will shine even more as the bullets increase in weight.

Nosler publishes some of their reloading data on their website. I'd start there... and then purchase the latest edition of the Nosler reloading manual at a store. There's tons of good information in those books, not just load data and tables.

Just search "nosler 300 win mag load data" on Google. It will list all bullet weights, type and most accurate powder tested as well as most accurate charge weights for all powders listed. I have had good luck going off their loads

Their book (Nosler) lists H1000 as the most accurate powder with 79gr being the most accurate load and 81 gr being the maximum. Mine likes H4831 the best with 180 gr bullets and yours will probably show a preference for a particular powder as well, with slow burning powders giving the best performance. Just work up your loads and listen to your rifle. The Hodgdon site has lots of free data and as long as your using a jacketed lead bullet you can use their data as long as you start low and work your way up.

Reloder 22 and 25, H4831 and 1000, IMR 7828 and IMR 4831, Vihtavuori N165 and 170, Accurate 3100. Plenty of suitable powders for the 300 Win Mag.
In a 24" barrel, you should get 3100 with the 180's and right around 3000 with 200's.

I shoot the 308 Norma Mag a lot, and there is next to no ballistic difference between it and the 300 Win Mag.
My pet load with the 180 Scirocco in my Custom M700 is 7x.x grains of IMR 7828 for 3140 fps, and sub moa consistently.

Another 308 Norma rifle prefers the 200, and I am using a stiff load of RL25 in it for 3030 fps...similar accuracy to the above.

Dave.

H1000 for the 180's as stated, and I've had some interesting early signs that Reloder 26 will be a good one too - it's a bit faster and also a bit more dense. 80.0 grs of RL26 gives almost 3100 fps in my gun's 24" barrel.

I know one thing.....Reloder 26 is the bee's knees in my 8mm Rem Mag, driving the 220 grain pills to 3100 without excess pressures.

Have not tried it in the Norma Mag yet, though.

[sorry for the slight derail] Dave

That sounds like a dandy 8mm load! Gotta love the 8mm Remmy!

Now ........as I understand it ......is RE#26 a temperature resistant version of RE#25 ? As well not to deviate from the OP's question but in my .308 NM Belgian Browning Safari ,I have a 1-12 twist .It will shoot the 180gr just fine but haven't tried the 200gr........any thoughts other than try it? I use H-4831 and Re#19 interchangeably ...this gun didn't care for RE#22.....Harold

No - completely different, unrelated powders. In fact, RL26 is slightly faster than RL25 where I've used it, and that has been the experience for others as well.
