Hey all,

I'm trying to decide upon the "best" powder for some 7mm RM handloads. These'll be hunting loads. I plan on shooting NP, Accubond, TSX bullets in the 140-160gr. weight. I require powder that is not temp sensitive. Speed is secondary to accuracy.

Buying powder here [ Vancouver Island ] is a PITA. I'm limited to what the local dealer has in stock, or, I can personally order a pound or two myself, but the dangerous cargo shipping fees are quite costly. I'd rather not have to experiment with three or four powders because of this. Hence..........

What is your choice and why?

Tia.

your gun will tell you what powder it likes best, but good places to start are : RL22, H4831sc, IMR 7828, H1000, RL25, Retumbo

I haven't seen a 7mm Rem Mag yet that didn't love 66 grains of H4831 and a 160 grain Nosler Partition. Will give around 3000 fps and fine accuracy, if the gun is good to go.

I agree with the others. I also like IMR 4831. In fact, the accuracy handload that I use to test the quality of a 7mm Rem Mag rifle is 62 grains IMR 4831 pushing a 162 Hornady. It's been universally excellent in a number of rifles.

IMR 4350 has served me well over the years in this caliber. Not to say others don't work as well or better, just another option. :D

I would have to agree 4350 has served me well. Others like Bartell will say RL22 and aome others but RL22 is very popular in this caliber.

That load is now over book max for most of the loading manuals except the Lyman book, I never got anywhere near 66 gr with the Sako I had last year. It maxed out at 63 with poor velocity, the gun liked reloder 22 though, I think it was 64.5 gr with a magnum primer gave me just over 3000 fps.

Rem7mm mag Loads

Have a Voere with 25" barrel and it just loves this load
160gr Nosler
Hodgdon #870
79grs
Fed Mag Primer
This is the tightest shooting load I have seen in a hunting gun .490" three shot group of bench,
