A question. I have been looking for a red dot optic to mount on the weaver rail on my Ruger Mk III at a good price. Cannot afford an Aimpoint. Are BSA any good? They are cheap but heard mixed reviews. Will be using the gun for bullseye shooting. Thanks in advance.

I have used a BSA . The only problem I had was seeing the red dot in sunlight or bright lights . However that is the nature of red dot scopes, not a fault of the BSA.
Other than that I was happy with it.

That is what I have heard. I guess for 40 bucks I think I will take a drive to Bass Pro Shops in Vaughn and pick up a Bass Pro Shops branded BSA and give it a try. Using it indoors at the range anyway.

Most of the cheaper red dot scopes are made in the same factory in China. They all are about the same quality depending on the specific model you buy. The enrty level Tasco (looks almost exactly like the BSA) is $42 (in our store) and comes either set up for .22 dovetail or weaver base. There are higher end red dots from Bushnell but most have detach, rings for weaver base (so you would have to buy a set of 30 mm .22 rings (sometimes not that easy to find).I believe the Mk 111 pistols have bases now that will accept .22 or weaver rings. Move up the ladder for quality and price but be reasonable about your expectations and remember that the majority of red dots have no magnification as they are 1 to 1. Also the electronic scopes only have a year warranty at this level. Phil.

There are cheaper red dot's out there but I put a Bushnell Trophy on my MkIII last month an am very happy with it. No hassle setting it up and sighting in. The Bushnell came complete with rings, slid straight onto the rail supplied with the MkIII.

As a slight hi-jack the lithium button batteries used for the Bushnell red dot sights are 3 for a buck at Dollerama.
