best red dot to mount on Elcan

Has anyone mounted a red dot on top of their Elcan? Mine is still being shipped. I read a review that said you have to remove small set screws on top of the Elcan before you can mount the plate. Anyone know how much these plates run?

I have a Burris FastFire III on my SpecterDR and it works well. Initially I wanted to get an actual Docter sight but when I was shopping none were available so I got this thing instead. Yes you need to remove the set screws and use the new screws that are shipped with the mounting plate. Unfortunately I got mine probably 5 years ago and don't remember where I got it from but iirc it was around $80-90.

What mounting plate are you using? I have a Fastfire III and the mounting screws are too big for the mounting plate. I was thinking about going to the pic rail instead but I'm thinking it might be a little high.

Has anyone mounted a fastfire on a 45 degree mount? Would I need a plate as well as that mount? Is there just one universal mounting plate that will fit most scopes?

I'm using the Elcan mounting plate. I thought I was using the stock screws but when I took a look just now I'm using something different.. Not sure where i got them from but theyr'e slightly longer, look like screws for my computer but they're black. Sorry I don't remember where I got them. :(

I don't think you can mount a RDS 45 degrees (my irons are mounted 45 on the Elcan though) on top of hte scope.

Farmboy man that docter sight is an awesome deal, wish that were available when I was buying earlier.

Offset T1/RMR the piggyback option isn't optimal in my opinion having ran both offset and piggybacked options the offset you still have a solid cheek weld easier to transition to quickly and you don't have a huge height over bore.

I played around with the AR today canting the rifle and it seems like a pretty natural shooting position. I think I'll go that route.
