I plan on mounting a RedDot scope on my AR-15 but am unsure on which on is the best. I looked at the Bushnell 1X Illuminated Dot scope (23mm) which was on special at LeBarons for $69.94, but when I went to check it out it looked way too small.

I was told by one of they guys there that the best option would be the Tasco PDP3 1X (25mm) 30mm tube which weas goin for $116.94. It was much larger and longer and looked much more suitable for an AR-15 role.

But I also like the other Tasco RedDot scope...the one on special for $37.94. Its a 1X (30mm) 38mm tube. Its much larger, but I'm concerned about quality. Is Bushnell the way to go, or Tasco?

Any suggestion? I dont want to spend alot of money, but If it totally worth it, and a MUST to get on an AR-15, I'll drop a $100 or so.

Thanks for any help.

frankly I have owned most of the ones on the market and so far the Aimpoint ML2 seems to be the best......

be pepared to spend $600 on QUALITY red dots....

I have an eotech 512 sitting here but have not mounted it yet... seems good also but rumour says they are having problems with durability.

those knock-off aimpoints are ok, but don't expect them to last a long time. the first one i had lasted about 300 rounds on my 7615 before the dot turned itself on and off with each shot/stroke. the one on my AR lasted about 500 rounds before it did the same thing.

^Eotech is good but it's not exactly a "red dot"?

cuz those knock-offs are only designed to take approx. 400fps of recoil from you know what... :p

I don't know what your budget is, but if you can't afford the $600 that an Aimpoint or Eotech would set you back, you might be better off buying ammo and conducting some good practice (which should be the first priority with or without optics), or better yet, get some professional instruction, until you can afford a proper optic.

Optics, probably more than any other thing to do with the shooting sports, is best summed up with "buy cheap, buy twice". The really suitable optics for AR's basically start with the $600(approx.) Aimpoint and Eotech, weave through the $1700 ACOGs and then go all the way up to the $2500 Schmidt & Bender Short Dot. Yes, you can spend less than $600, but you won't be getting much for it - buyer beware.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound facecious (sp?), but none of the optics listed in the poll really measure up to "BEST RedDot scope for AR-15".

I put off buying an optical sight for my AR for almost 4 months, just so I could save up the extra for an Aimpoint ML3 and Larue mount - they were well worth the wait, and worth every penny. I would have regretted buying anything else, save the possibility of an Eotech.

I've owned 3 Tasco products, and I will never throw my money away on another.

i saved up for an eotech 552 for my AR. A friend of mine put a knockoff aimpoint on his sig black special. We will see how long his lasts. I love my eotech and am happy with it :D

For what it's worth I have seen an Eotech that the factory shot with a .22 through the glass. Still worked flawlessly!! Seems fairly durable to me!

I prefer the Eotech but the Aimpoint gets the durability nod, I have since gone back to the ultimate combination of Quick enough, totally durable and relatively inexpensive = Iron sights with big dot front tritium post (I do keep and aimpoint though and will return to Eotech should they get that battery connection issue sorted out...I am hoping Kevin has more info on this just had another bud who's Eotech let go.

Why only Eotech? What about the Russian Kobra red dot? Anyone using one? Any feedback is appreciated. Don't make me buy one to test ;)

i put a bushnell sportview red dot on my ar 4 years ago, just like the energizer bunny it's still going.for shooting from 50 to 100 yards it works good enough for me,i think i paid $90

i've got 2 kind of red dot in stock here. One EoTech and two OKO with the cover. I love them and they are both quality, reliable and strong enough to put on my AR/black rifle.

Let me just say this..... my 2 "fun" AR's both have Jackysx's red dots mounted on them. Two years now and ~6000 rounds between them. Not a hitch. Had to replace the batteries in one (inadvertently left it on). They are decent aimpoints for a plinkin' rifle (I don't use these two AR's for competition). So for about ~$250 delivered I think I did ok!
Let me clarify as well... these are not high-end, fantastic, aimpoints but they work just fine for recreational / fun shooting. So if that's all you plan on doing with your particular AR then I would recommend one of these.
On the other hand, if after purchasing your rifle, accessories and ammo you have an extra $700 then yeah... go for the high end gear. This is even more desireable if you plan on shooting competions etc. But for most of us weekend warriors, the aimpoint copies work just fine. Have you ever noticed.....everyone says they sport eotechs & ML2's but 90% of the black rifle pics have cheaper copies on them;) . Just my $0.02
