I have recently bought a Remington 700 in 300 win mag. I'm going to pick up a Leupold VX-3 3.5-10X40 this week and want to know what base/ring combo would be suggested?
Thanks. Cletus

Leupold PRW rings and bases or Talley 4 screw.

Weaver style steel bases and good rings like PRW or Burris will work perfectly.

I've used them on several 375s with no problems at all.

I dont have a rich uncle buying my stuff.... so for what they want for nightforce rings and bases (ho ree cow) i could buy a good used 7600

Ya, but you'd be a "winner" if you used them.

The Weaver style is the most imitated system out there for a reason.

I use Talley LW rings on my Rem 700 L/A.

I'm in the same boat. I'm a Warne fan, but with the puny tube on my VXIII 2.5-8x36, I think I may need extension bases. It would be nice if the manufacturers offered technical drawings with information that could actually be used to determine what product you need.

So I went today to P&D today and picked up my scope. I went with the 3.5-10X40 Leupold with CDS Duplex, Leupold medium rings and bases, and Leupold flip up caps. I like the look of it now I just need to shoot it. I'll get my dials next week or a little later. I'll let u guys know how it works out.

Rem 700 BDL LA "bases/rings"

I bought a very nice shape stainless mtn. rifle and decided to go with Remoington's Special Alloy bases made just for the M700 in one height (looks like a medium height). I assume that's the height because my Bushnell Elite 3200 with the 40mm objective bell fits my rifle with barrel clearance to spare and appears a 42 objective bell would also fit nicely ; don'yt know about the 50mm lunker objectives that I avoid like the plague; "less is more" for hunting) I hoped for a lower set as I use lower power scopes with 32mm and 36mm objectives and one with 28mm) but couldn't find any in any gunshop. The special alloy mounts are claimed to be much stronger than aluminum but are much lighter than steel. They come as 2 separate unitized mounts (base and ring combined) in silver (match SS rifle finish) matte finish or black which eliminates a separate potentially troublesome base. Cost me about $35 retail at the local rifle shop. (Take a look at the Rem website for details). I actually replaced some fine Redfield mounts & bases as well as the much heavier, superior quality Leupold mounts I'd tried on from onw odf my other m700 iflea; I hunted and target shot with this setup for 2 seasons now and have no regrets (as keeping the weight down yet strong was a priorty) whatsoever eixcept I wish they came in a "Low" option for my smaller scopes. If weight is not a factor , the Leupolds are top chice , Redfiels also excellent, but the Z-alloy Rem.'s made just for the 700 are my pick for a lightweight mtn. rifle. Hope this helps.

That I have used for a hunting rifle: the best rings and bases are the removable EAW ring/base combo. The best value is the Burris Signature "Zee" ring with any steel weaver base that fits properly.

A special mention for Conetrol which are very elegant ... however have no personal experience with them yet ...although I intend to eventually

I tried the Burris Zee rings with the inserts for a few years. I thought the plastic inserts on mild recoiling rifles was a good idea. It was easy to adjust the scope for point of aim. No scope scars. However, the crossbolt that connects everything to the scope base is a POS. I have on several occasions broken the crossbolt. It is too weak. I have moved onto more robust rings. For the extra 1 to 2 ounces I could care less, be it target or hunting.
