Well it seems the neighbor and I are getting into the BIG 50 game :D We've got a steyr hs 50. We mostly use leupolds on all our rifles, we like luepolds and having Korth so close to home is a big plus. My first idea was to put a leupold mk4 8.5-25x50 on the big 50 but I noticed a lot of guys use Nightforce on them. Neither of us are familiar with NF products.

So which model of NF would be appropriate for the 50bmg?
Where does NF have a warranty center?
Where is a good place to purchase NF?
What reticle suits this rig the best?
How would the MK4 compare to the NF?
The scope mount on the steyr seems to be straight, 0 moa, is this an issue with either scope?

Most of the 50s we build leave with NF scopes, 5.5x22 is the most common but many of us who shoot real long are sporting the 8x32s.
The Leupold is a decent scope to be sure, but for real long range work to have a reticle that is matching the turret adjustments makes more sense.
The eye relief of the NF is also slightly better than the MK4s.
The 5,5x22 has 100 moa of vertical elevation, the 8x32 only 65 moa so most of our rifles come with a plus 20 or more rail.
Service on NF is in the rare case of needing it virtually instant. I can not speak for all NF dealers but we take care of any problems directly on your behalf.
In the years I have sold NF to date I have had only 2 warranty issues both of which were resolved in 7 days or less.
You will need fairly high rings on the HS50 as there is not much for cheek weld unless your neck is VERY short.

Either the MK4 or the NF is 100% suitable, it is really a matter of which scope you prefer and what you are expecting from it. The pricing now is so close my suggestion would be to look through both brands before deciding.
We carry both lines as do some of the other dealers of NF product.

On another note we are starting to make replacement muzzle brakes for the HS50 that is not nearly as abusive to the shooter, so when you get tired of the muzzle blast we can help you.

I agree with Rick on his opinion of the scopes described and have found similar results. Phil.
