Best scope for a .17 HMR?

Hey guys (and gals)...I'm looking to add a second .17 HMR to my collection, and am considering some slightly better glass for it than my current one wears. (Bushnell Banner 6-24X) What are the best options under, or around $500? The gun will be for groundhog duty mostly, THAT much magnification probably not essential...but nice. :)

I'm not up to speed on modern optics, my experience mostly hands-on. I find the Banner lacks somewhat in low light, sight picture seems fairly small...not even as "bright" (if that makes sense) as my 3-9X Bushnell Trophy scope my .22 lr wears.

I appreciate any advice/recommendations you might have, and really appreciate those who'll take the time to respond.

Nikon Buckmark. Good price and great glass. I have a couple on my Cz's and thats where they live. They just look right on those rifles and have killed hundreds of gophers. Side focus is nice also.
 
I have a falcon menace on my hmr . The scope is a little heavy buy 4-14 is nice on gophers the side focus is nice as well
 
Thanks for the input guys, I'd welcome any other suggestions you might have. Roughneck12~would you have a link to that Nikon scope? Googled it, and got a mixed bag of info. Checked Nikon's site, didn't see it there.

When it comes to scopes I know squat...but I just mounted a Leupold 1-4 20mm on my 10/22VLEH. Nice and light/compact and clear IMHO. ~$260 otd from Lebaron (no hst & membership) I'm happy with it.
btw....I just posted some pics in the Rimfire Pic thread.

I think he means Nikon buckmaster, have a 3x9x50mm on my 17hmr works good, have a 6x18x40 with target dot reticle on my 22-250, that is sweet.
 
On my Savage Heavy Barrel 17 HMR Thumb hole stock I just put on a Bushnell Banner 4X12 40MM. And it works great for gophers. Guess you got to figure out how far you want to reach out and how good a shot you are.
