Looking for a scope for a rem 700 sps tactical i'm going to buy, just wondering what works great and won't break the bank i know you get what you pay for in scopes but not looking to spend 1k on a scope.

You have to decide what the primary use for this rifle will be, the range, the game, and the required magnification and field of view.

Mostly range, but I will take a moose and maybe couple goats a year. As for magnification I really have no idea my range max is 500 yards

Zeiss conquest 3-9 x 40 , best money you will ever spend on a "cheap" scope

with a fine reticle, 7-10 power is plenty for hitting animals and paper.

I used a 2-7 for many years and even long shots had no issues with hitting my target , just make sure you know your capabilities and limits.

The scope is the area you don't wanna cheap out on actually.

I have a nice Zeiss Conquest..used maybe 3 times..6.5-20x50mm Z-Varmint Ret..I would sell for $999..best scope under $1000. also have a one peice TPS rail and TPS rings..ready to start shooting. what chambering is your varmint? .308?

I wouldn't go over 1 power, right now you can buy luepolds used 3.5-14x50 tactical for about a grand 100% warranty and will suit that rifle perfect for hunting and long range target shooting. too much magnication in the field really narrows your fov and that isn't good. Most power I'd put on a hunting scope is 14. prefer 10 heck the snipers used to use fixed 10 power at a 1000 yards. your money is best spent on used leupolds as the warranty is transferable and you get a big discount....my 2 cents. If you can find a swarovski in your price range and magnification range buy it, they are crystal crystal clear.
