Looking for recommendations for a tactical scope to be used interchangeably on both my M1A with CASM mount and my SA15.7. Magnification from 3X to ~ 16.

The M1A are known as tough on scopes due to recoil so I'm looking for something which holds adjustment well.

The Leupold /Mark 6, 3-18, the locking zero stop turrets makes re-zeroing when you put it back on very quick. I can see the holes and re-zero perfectly at a 100 yds with 2-3 shots. It has perfect clarity/focus at 10 -15 yards and at extended ranges. Very good glass.

What is your budget?

This scope is also very light which is why I chose it over the night force. Probably 1/2 a pound lighter.

You've got the dough, I think you should choose Nightforce too.

Good optics always demand the best manufacturer.
If he wants the best then he won't be buying Nightforce.
Don't get me wrong Nightforce is very good but for $2500 he won't be buying "the best".
The Schmidt Bender PMII 4-16x42 or x50 are close to $4,000.

Best, in this case, means a scope able to hold its center at all times in spite of the recoil of the M1A but also interchangeable for use with a rifle that shoots 5.56. The world's best glass is made in Germany and used by companies like Leica but I'm not looking for the best glass here.

I like the Leupold Tactical line of scopes. They are rugged, decent glass, have good light gathering, and a lifetime warranty. I short, I think that the Mark IV line is the best bang for the buck. Iv'e been using them for more than a decade on my M14's and never have had any problems. However, with your budget you could up grade to the higher end 6 or 8 line. I don't have any experience with those.

I don't think that it is necessary to spend more than a couple K for a scope. I mean, are you getting twice the scope when you spend 4K on one? I don't think so. As with anything IMO, there comes a point in a price range, where you are just spending extra for the name.

You have a nice fat budget for an optic, you should be able to get a great one for that money.

Magnification from 3X to ~ 16 is useless.

Sightron SIII 1-7×24 a true 1x , ( mils ), great for your ar15

7x is enough for a 308.

Having several I like the Aimpoint Pro on a flat top AR as I consider it a 300 meter rifle and that leaves you $2000 for your M14. Nightforce are great but the Leupold 3.5-10 X 40 LRT M3 is pretty cool on the M14 And has been used by the US Army on their DMR rifles. I know some will say 1 MOA turrets are no good but honestly you can only be out 1/2 MOA at any distance. Thats 5" at 1000 yds. That leaves some cash for ammo. If you take your time there are great deals here on the EE as well. Paid $1500 for a NF NXS 8 -32 X 56 a while back in like new condition. Didn't get the box. $1000 box I guess.
