Hey There,

I'm looking for a good semi auto 12g shotgun that I can use for birds, turkey and deer. Looking for new or used. Some points of importance

  • Price $400 or so
  • availability of parts
  • reliability
  • quality

I shot trap with an 1187 and really liked it. Was thinking about a used 1100 in this price range. Let me know what you guys suggest.

$400? That doesn't get you anything in new, used most likely won't be anything more than a fixed choke 2 3/4". You might be able to find a decent used Baikal or Stoeger semi that is 3" and with interchangeable chokes for around your price range, but realistically you may want to consider upping your budget by a few hundred to give yourself some more options. Also, make sure that if you want to shoot steel, get a gun that was designed for it.

You are going to be pretty limited with that budget, as many have said above. Aside from keeping an eagle eye on the EE for a used Rem 1100 or Baikal, I have a suggestion from Corwin Arms:

https://www.corwin-arms.com/product/warrior-semi-automatic-shotgun-28inch-barrel-synthetic-stock

If you check out their vendor section, there will be a pretty large thread about these, including 18.5" 2-barrel sets for only $80 more than the single 28" ...
they look to have come from the same manufacturer as Weatherby out of Turkey (as well as recent units like Sash and Derya from other vendors).

Having said that, regularly scouring vendor websites can pay off; I scored a brand new Weatherby SA-08 a while back for $358

While I love my Grizzly pump to bits, I will take an American or Turkish, or even a Russian Baikal semi over one from China every time.

here is a few that would work for you .a rem model 58 win model 1400 or model 50 xl900 rem sportsman and there is a model 48 .all these are good old auto loaders thy work very well Dutch

You will find some used semi's in your price range but if you are looking for guns that were designed for steel shot and screw in chokes, you are getting limited at $400.00. You may find a used Mossberg 930, older Remington 1187, or a Baikal that were designed for steel with screw in chokes, especially once hunting is over for this fall.

Those turkish guns that the guys have mentioned look pretty good and the SA-08 seems to be a pretty good gun.

If I had my heart set on a semi in the price range you have mentioned I would be looking at a Remington 1100. You would most likely be stuck with a fixed choke in 2-3/4 but it would be a start.

The older 1100's are pretty since from my experience anyways.

For $500 I got my son a Weatherby SA-08, it came with 3 chokes and 2 gas valves for light and heavy loads...with the light valve it cycles 7/8 ounce soft loads for him, and when I borrow it I use the heavy valve for stouter ammo. It's worked beautifully and absolutely no issues, Weatherby has done a great job of quality control with the Turkish gun maker, and being made in Turkey keeps it inexpensive! The design is based on a previous Benelli shotgun.

Possibilities for a decent auto for $400 superx1 , win model 50 , browning a5 or double auto . You may not find these on EE for $400 but if u shop around they are out there Epps is a good source at realistic prices . 2nd choice rem 58, 1148' 1100, 878, good guns 3rd choice the mossberg,s Ithaca's and various off shore guns .
