Hey all. In my looking into the new bergera ive grown an itch for an accurate semi. Reports seem to be hit and miss with the bergeras 10/22 so far so thats got me wondering whats the best semi 22lr on the market now?
Or is it best to buy a 1022 clone and build one myself?
Accuracy is the main goal

Go to the Dlask web site, they make an excellent product & they are Canadian.

Does it have to be a 10/22? It seems everyone's are more or less hit or miss; any at our club, including super fancy custom ones have not been winning any competitions regardless of $300.00 stock guns to $3000 works of art.

I’ve had a 10/22 that couldn’t hit the proverbial side of a barn.

I’ve had 2 functionally super reliable Marlin 60s that could shoot dimes at 25 meters with Winchester bulk high velocity.
Sometimes still regret not keeping one.

Im in no way stuck on a 1022. Been down that road before. Ended up with a great shooting rifle but could have bought a cooper for what i had in it and parts that didnt work thru out its build.
Basically looking at the top of semi auto rimfires. Can be any make. I want a quality accurate semi auto.

thompson center just put out essentially a 10/22 clone. They call is a T/CR 22 performance center. No idea how it will shoot, but sure seems sweet. Might be worth looking into.

Isnt there anything better than the 1022 platform?
Maybe i should just go with a ansultz bolt gun and forget the semi

If you want pure accuracy, the bolt will win... and you can get excellent performance from a wide range of rimfire bolt actions. As long as you are ok with the ergonomics, the CZ455/457 and T1X offer quick change barrel options which can be helpful ... and match barrels are shooting very well.

The problem with factory rifles is .... factory barrels. From the specs used to the quality of the pipe, most manf think of a semi as a high volume rig vs an accuracy rig.

Since entering LR rimfire PRS, I have experimented with 10/22 barrel specs to try and get both function AND accuracy. WRT to the performance demanded in this game and compared to its peer bolt rifles custom or factory, my rifles have done very well.

Having been down some very expensive 10/22 rabbit holes with moderate success, I totally understand the dollars vs performance objection. Today, the overall costs would be less then a comparable CZ/Tikka build.. by a bunch.

Do you still need to solve the typical donor issues? Yes... some factory rifles run well out of the box, some dont

YMMV

With a bolt gun you can choose ammunition that solely meets additional criteria up and above will it cycle reliably. For squirrels I would choose a CZ452 with a light barrel. Plenty accurate, light, and easy to mod the trigger if you want something with a lighter, crisper pull.

I have several very accurate bolt action squirrel rifles and im in the double digits for rimfires. The want for a better semi auto was just to have a different platform to play with. Generally with my current semi autos its a 20 yard or less game as i prefer head shots. Just figured to go with top end parts to build a 1022 the end result i could buy a really nice high end rifle but it seems no one makes one

Maybe the new savage 17mh2 will show some potential if they cross the border

Best semi? That’s easy. I’ve had a bunch of semis and the volquartsen built 10/22, stainless steel receiver and trijicon iron sights on it is the nicest one I’ve bought. Also have a volquartsen receiver build with kidd parts and kidd barrel but that light weight volquartsen is my favourite. Bolt assembly is dlc coated. Feels like glass sliding the bolt back
