I voted M16 (and variants, of course) as I know which I'D rather be carrying "out there."

It's light, accurate, ergonomic and reliable when properly cared for. It's great for normal troop engagement distances and if you had to, you could use it all day without fatigue. Yes, you have to make kill zone hits to take down your 'quarry' but then, a .30cal in the arm isn't a show-stopper either.

Also....I'm a civvy and have no right to an opinion....but I gave it anyway :D
 
No contest at all. AR-15 variants, hands down. There's no bolt gun in the world that could compete (though they were fine in their day). As far as the heavier semi-autos go, I still think the AR-15 is far superior mostly because in the amount of time it would take a Garand user (for example) to get off 30 *aimed* shots, an ar-15 user could get off a hundred (or more). Less recoil *does* matter
 
i voted fn fal why cause bannign a gun cause it looks scary is what retards do if the person was mentaly retarded who made the law it should be reviewed if not abolished any Gov't who wants to ban any gun for any reason is either reatarded or Genocidal
 
I can only assume that the people that voted M16, never carried a real battle rifle like the FN C1A1. The M16, after 45 years, still trying to make a silk purse out a sow's ear.
 
I'd go with the Kalashnikov, while it might not be be great as a traditional "rifleman's rifle" it's an excellent weapon for real world mud and blood infantry combat, which typically occurs at fairly short ranges. I think the length of frontline service and the relatively few design amendments that the AK needed compared to most its Western counterparts speak for themselves.

FN FAL What!!!! it is pricey to build and as long as a spear! plus the mags are huge, heavy and only hold 20rds.
I would go with the AK handsdown. Its cheap, fast handling, durable and easy to train on. The AKs only draw back is its max range is 300M but who cares when 90% of the time the enemy is closer then that. Plus in a real war, there are very few supplies like CLP and the AK can be as rusty as you like and still put rounds down range.
 
My vote was the Lees they faced two wars could be fired fast enough that germans thought they were semi's. And more moose have been taken by 303 than any other.
 
All great service rifles, each filling a niche or having valid strengths to their designs. Depending on the scenario, we still call into action many of the above or their modern variants. You need the right tool for the job,and the job varies.

What does killing moose have to do with battle?

And, 60 years ago, against a foe equipped with 90* turn bolts, a SMLE was no doubt massively impressive. One can only imagine what their reaction would have been to modern battle rifles, and their incredible aimed rate of fire.

I have, I slugged one through the woods for years with the Military.. While i DID love the rifle, the best "service rifle" out there right now would be either the C7 / M16, or the AK. I still haven't voted because I haven't made up my mind.

I did love the FN though ...
