I have a few dozen rifles and that is what really interests me...I've owned shotguns in the past and have shot game with them but have always sold them...they were mostly SXS...Right now I don't own a shotgun, but I think I should have one. Just one. An all purpose, do everything affordable shotgun. What should I buy?

A 16 ga. With 26 inch pipes full and modified fixed, blue steel and real walnut preferably a stack barrel

definitely a pump if you don't want to spend too much. Always reliable, and get's smoother the more you use it.

Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge...

I was thinking an over and under...and 12 g (for ease of buying ammo) ......is there a real basic standard fairly o/u lightweight 12 g. that can be obviously recommended?...and I guess it needs to be able to shoot steel shot..

You guys can probably tell I don't know much about this shotgun stuff.

Well, we could guess for you based on what we don't know about you, or you could look through all the threads here answering that very same question over and over and over again and answer it yourself better than any of us could.

Just sayin'.

Buy a shotgun that fits you and points where you look.

There is no BEST gun. Everyone's bodies are different.

...other than Winchester!!!!

Seriously though. You are going to get a different answer from every different guy/ gal on here.

BUY what fits!!!!!!

If you don't know anything about shotgun fit google it.

Long arms, short arms, fatty, skinny, long neck, and no neck.

Biggest concerns are length of pull and cheek weld (comb height) and drop at heel to fit in your shoulder properly. Oh and cast off in the proper direction for left or right hand shooters.

A high end synthetic and some wood guns allow you to shim the butt stock slightly for all of these dimensions.

Just sayin'?
