Does anybody know where I can get ghost ring sights for the Marlin guide gun?? and which sights are really the best I've heard ghost ring are but.........
What I'm looking for is accurate close range work, bushwacking or hiking in tight bush. Any thoughts or comments are welcomed.. Thanks in advanced guys

I think the boys at "The shooting edge" in Calgary have the ghost ring set ups. I hear they are the cats ass. On mine i currently have a 2-7x33 leupold scope which i will be using to develop my handloads. I may go ghost ring set up after the handloads are dialed in. Click on the shooting edge billboard at the top of the page.

NEVER A SCOPE. EVER. a scope is a hang-up. is rendered useless from a drop. can fog. slower on target then open sights. adds weight. BAD BAD BAD.

get yourself a set of peeps. I prefer williams, but the XS/Ashley are nice too.

3 years carrying a marlin in the bush, 1 year of guiding with it. thats my advice, and that's where it comes from.

........thats great for guiding or bear defense but some guys want to actually hunt with this rifle and a 250 yard shot won't be outta the question. A nice bull out at 150 - 200 yards might be a bit of a task at low light conditions (dusk) looking through that course unprecise ghost ring. My problem is i want the handiness of the ghost ring but the precision of a 4x at a possible 200 yard shot. My pre 64 .30-.30 is an easy hit at 200 yards with open sights but come dusk or dawn is a real challenge and i don't want to sacrifice a lost bull or nice deer because of low light conditions because i had a ghost ring. Can't have it all so i am still torn as to what set up i will be going with once my handloads are developed.

I find a distinct advantage over a ghost ring vs. buckhorn or other 'notch' type sights as far as shooting in poor light goes. Just look at that little ball of light framed by your ghost ring and put the target in the centre. Not as good as a scope but a definite step up over buckhorns....

BTW I use a Williams receiver sight. SIR has them for around $80 IIRC.

I like the ghost ring arrangement when coupled wityh a square post front sight. I've used the Lyman/Williams gallows style aperature, but with the solid reciever of Marlin, the Ashley (now XS) would be my choice. I've seen lots of bent gallows style rear sights. Because you are asking specifically about a sight for a rifle chambered for the .45/70 or the .450 Marlin cartridges, I doubt that the ghost ring will cost you a shot you could make with a scope.

I went with the williams. leave the small apature in for long shots (200yrds in no sweat on a moose/elk) and unscrew it for a ghostring setup in the thick stuff.

My 1895 wears XS Ghost rings with the protective ears I purchased from the Shooting edge in Calgary 3 years ago, I prefer the large ring and have to say they are best compromise between speed and accuracy for an open sighted rifle and in my opinion the best thing you can do for your marlin, mine sees rough use riding around in the tailboom or the back of the pickup for 5-7 months a year and the protective ears are really a nice feature as is the super tough one piece milled steel front sight. Its all about personal preference and for me they fit the bill.

My 1895 GS wears a Wild West ghost ring with Williams Firesites and a open hood up front.

Fast and easy to see.

Oh yes, for low light situations, a Streamlight M3 tac light on a Wild West flashlight mount on the business end of the magazine.

A 2.5X scoutscope, with QD's and an XS ghost ring to back it up.
When I come out west this spring, this is exactly how my 356 will be set up . Currently my guide gun is wearing a red dot. 5 yrs without failing, it works for me.

Mentioned this on another thread but what do you guys think of a holosight on a .444. My buddy is thinking this might be a good way to go. Timer hunting and close up shots.
