Looking for a sling to pack a heavy varmint rifle around. Looked at Wholesale but they were all the conventional type. Maybe something like the double shoulder straps on a golf bag? I have a light carry varmint rifle, but hard to switch guns when my heavy one is much like a death laser.:D

Any ideas would be great.

Are you carrying other gear where you could strap it to a ruck or do you need it fairly ready.

How about a Kifaru Gunbearer. Or if you are actively hunting an Emdom Gunslinger. Ive carried c-6 machineguns and find it still most comfortable slung in a 2 point sling carry with my right hand on the handle or the front stock if i cant throw it on my back.

Ideally i would strap it to my ruck and when its time to hunt ditch ruck and move to my vantage point nearby. You cant beat a padded waist band. That being said biathlon shooters use a 'golf bag' double shoulder strap setup but i cant wrap my head around for just the gun unless thats the ONLY thing i need. I rarely go that far without even a 3 day pack 'just in case' and then i might consider the Kifaru product or just attach it to my lightfighter RAID.

I like the gunbearer if you have a backpack or if not the EMDOM gunslinger has a nice wide shoulder strap with adjustable length. But then again a standard well padded Browning strap from LeBarons works well too if you just want to carry it upright.

how heavy is your rifle? If it's under 12lbs, take your purse off and sling the rifle over your shoulder with a regular sling. Pretty easy solution I'd figure.

The gun weighs 15 lbs - Hence my question.

Any time you want to go for a hike just let me know, I'll even carry your purse.

Thanks for the serious input Delta.

I was being serious. I lug a 11lbs rifle around on a 1" regular sling all the time. My enfield weighs 13lbs, and even that gets carried around on a 1942 enfield sling. Like I was told: "Take your purse off and grow stronger."

But since you clarified your rifle is 15lbs, then yeah, even I can admit that would get a little heavy. Biathelon slings are the only thing I could think of for that. Or do like you said and rig something out of a golf bag strap.

I am going to look at the Eblerstock packs, I have to carry my gun approx. 5k eack way to where I am hiking- and it is not flat walking. Trust me-I have packed the odd gun around as well. Just looking for options for a heavy gun. 15 pounds on a conventional sling sucks as I do it for shorter jaunts almost every weekend.

Hansol- When I need to move my gunsafe or a big couch I will look you up. You sound to be a true man among the boys here.

I like the really wide neoprene type slings for heavy rifles. Acually I made a bit of a custom one myself as well, from a pair of damaged neoprene waders (you could get neoprene from other sources); a super wide custom sling cut from neoprene could be as wide as you wanted and really spread that weight. A sling is just a strip of material with some plastic/metal clips after all. If you had yourself a 4-5" wide strip of thick (double thick??) neoprene where the weight bears on your body, I think you'd be really comfortable...and if anyone calls it a purse strap, it would also make a first rate gag for them!

LOL no worries Longdraw, always willing to lend a hand. But I'm actually a big softy at heart. I just get tired of hearing hunters going "ooooooh, my 8lbs rifle is SOOOOOOO heavy".

Anybody use the Safari Sling? I got a friend one for christmas and it seemed pretty decent on his rifle. I find the biggest issue with regualr slings is the tendency for them to slide down your shoulder or get hung up on brush. Slung across the front of the body allows much better control, and stops the slipping.

I just piece mealed a sling together bought a 1" uncle mikes sling and slipped over the cushioned section from my hockey bag works great. The hockey bag insert is cushioned enough to carry my 15+ lbs rifle and it has a tacky surface so the sling won't slide off my shoulder.

V-tac long range padded sling in a patrol carry or back slung
and any 3pt sling that lets you ruck carry

how/where you carry it will effect your comfort level more then just adding padding...
