Hey Experts,

I'm looking for the slug available for a smooth bore and what is the best for rifled barrels.

My entire family runs 870's mainly smooth bore slug barrels. (I run a rifled barrel and am content with my loads). We simply wanted to extend the point of zero out to 75 yards.

Originally,
Range: 55 yards
Round: Challenger 2 3/4" MAGNUM (1 1/8oz @ 1610fps)
Group: Roughly 2"

With this set up, the gun in question knocked down 3 deer and challenger slugs knocked down all of our deer without question.

When we went to make the adjustments we fired a round at 50 yards to make sure the sights were still on. Dad was on his gun and I was on the scope. When the first shot was fired, the board moved but i couldn't see any hole in the 1/4" plywood. The second shot didn't even hit the board it went HIGH and RIGHT and the third round went through the board but no where near paper.

When i walked up the the target I couldn't believe what I saw. The round that made teh board move didn't go throughthe board but i could clearly see where it had indented the paper and the slug was lying on the ground at the bottom of the target.

I'm assuming it was a bad box of rounds but we tried a second box out of a different gun and the pattern wasn't all that impressive as it was originally either.

In every test the Brenneke slugs out penetrate the competition and prove to be an awesome hunting slug. This slug doesn't deform like other slugs which is great for hunting thicker skinned animals and breaking through the shoulder bones in larger game.

Rottweil BRENNEKE Classic:

Classic hunting cartridge with ball cartridge and felt wad, which can be used universally up to 50 m, from all current shotguns. The gun choke does not have a significant effect on the precision of this cartridge; it can therefore be used for all of the popular shotguns. For decades now this cartridge has been available in the three most important calibres and with a shell length of 67.5 mm (also for shotguns with a chamber of 65 mm) as well as with a shell length of 70 mm.

1 Transparent PE plastic shell prevents unintended use

2 Optimum precision thanks to an original BRENNEKE slug with a felt wad (classic)

3 Reliable sealing off of the powder chamber with a plastic H-shaped disc

4 Non-corrosive SINOXID® firing to protect the barrel

5 First-class 20-mm long metal base cap for cal. 12

I've tried these and had difficulty getting them to pattern as well as some others. I am using 3" Winchester Supreme Sabotsand they work well out of my rifled barrel. Not so well out of smooth bore
