Best TACTICAL .22LR??

I had the mossberg tactical .22, it was awful. Garbage IMO. A 10/22 dressed up or sr22 would be a safe bet.

When you combine 'tactical' and '.22' in the same sentence.....you're gonna get flamed around here ;)

However, if you are looking to simulate shooting your go-to rifle on the cheap....maybe a dedicated .22 upper for your AR?

No, no folks... don't get all worked up now. My want list is short and light and the tactical has these + are cool looking :) This isn't a "gonna take on the world with a .22 thread"

If you are OK just shooting at the range, take a look at the S&W, or Colt models, or a rimfire upper on the real thing. Restricted, so you need an RPAL, and a range membership to shoot it.

Wasn't at all impressed by the general build of the Mossberg. I would save my money for about anything else.

That pretty much leaves the 597VTR, and the SR22, for off the shelf picks.

Guys say the Remingtons shoot more accurately, some have had issues with the extractors. Rugers have the aftermarket parts availability pretty much tied up.

Or you can start with any Ruger or clone, and spend from there, whether it is as simple as a rattle-can of flat black paint, or a full-on dress-up in AR parts.

Your choice.

I have the VTR 597 and it runs awesome! I have what you might call a "2nd Gen" gun and the bugs were worked out I guess. I just camed it up....plus the price is a little nicer on the wallet than a SR22.

I know the "tacticool" thing has been beaten to death. See below copied and pasted.

"I am like you and did a ton of research on the 22LR semi auto in non restricted with no mag limit and finally, in a tacticool style.

I came to realize that in Canada there are 4 options available after a week of research.

Ruger SR22
Remington 597 VTR
Mossberg 715T
ISSC MK22 SCAR
Possibly the Kel Tec SU 22 in late 2012 or 2013 if they send a sample in to RCMP.

Various ranges of prices, quality, history and aftermarket goodies.

All the IMO "good" ones that resemble the AR15 are restricted in Canada. I would have loved to buy the S&W MP15-22 but it is restricted and limited to 10 round mags.

Still do not know which one to buy. I love the SR22 but the banana clip 25rd mag looks so goofy IMO. I really want the ISSC MK22 SCAR 22LR but I have heard these suffer from quality issues such as jamming and/or ejection issues.

Disclaimer: I am new to firearms as well. PAL in the mail and no I am not a mall cop."

I love my .22's bolts & semi's & have a couple that would fit the tactical look alike field. For light weight, tactical build options & ease of locating parts, the Ruger 10/22 with one of the Arch Angel kits would be my 1st choice. You end up with a .22 that is ultra light (lighter than a SR .22), & a durable stock that's very customizable. There are a lot of options out there from many companies but considering all the choices the 10/22 is a pretty economical & common choce for many shooters.

I just finished my 1st Arch Angel 10/22 build a couple days ago. When I put it up against my other semi .22's, it wins hands down in all area's from weight to comfort when shooting. I gotta say it's quickly becoming one of my fav. semi .22's to shoot
