Under 300? Used Leupold M8 4x, or maybe a 2-7x33 or 3-9x40 Redfield Revolution.
Used Leupold.
I also heard good things about that Sightron S1-Tac but its only a 3-9X.
Personaly, I like a little more magnification at the range.
Should be OK for field use.
Redfield ( Leupold ) Revolution is also a good value.

Just make sure you know where your used Leupold was originally purchased from.
Leupold Canada is not covering warranty repairs on scopes purchased from non authorized dealers.

If you want to be sure, just ask the seller the serial number of the scope then call Korth.
They will tell you right away if its covered by Canadian waranty.
Nikon or Burris have a number of offerings in your price range.
Both have "forever, no fault warranties" - even if you break it by dropping it and both warranties are transferable to any future owner. The latter may or may not be important to you, but helps if you wish to sell it later.
