Been researching this for a while and can't seem to find what I am looking for.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

I am looking for a new 16.5 - 18" (preferably 16.5") heavy barrel .308 / 7.62 bolt gun with detachable mag for under $700 that is capable of out of the box sub MOA accuracy.

Is $700 way too optimistic?

Does such a beast exist?

Not looking for anything with bells and whistles. Just a solid rifle capable of taking some abuse and is accurate.

I have funds set aside for the NEA25 if they can ge it to NR status so can't afford much more for a bolt gun for this years hunting season.

Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated.

IRUNGUNS for a Savage 10 with 18" barrel.

There was a 16" SPS on the EE not to long ago, might still be there.

Found a rem 700 SPS tac (20 inch bull barrel non threaded with black Hogue over mold stock) on the EE For 650 shipped...

Dropped it into a magpul hunter stock and now have the cheapest "precision" rig ever lol.

How do you like that magpul stock? was considering one for the dbm setup... same cost as me getting my HS stock inletted for a stiller/seekins dbm.

I would suggest getting a Remington 700 SPS AAC and then putting a detachable may kit on it of some kind or another if you are really insistent on that. Will cost more than $700 all in, but is about as cheap as you can go and still have a decent finished product. As others have mentioned, stay away from the Mossberg rifles if you are looking for good accuracy.
