I'm thinking of purchasing a new aftermarket choke for my A350, and was wondering what your guys' experience has been with factory chokes vs. patternmaster/kicks/carlson chokes?

I'd like a single choke for both geese and ducks, so I've simply used a modified choke in the past.

Hey 3macs…..do you have any extended Invector 10g chokes that you have no need for that you wouldn’t mind selling? Extended 10g chokes are hard to come by around here.

You may want to look up ALS CORNER STORE. Ive been there and have never seen that many walls covered in chokes. Not joking , there are literally many complete walls from floor to ceiling with nothing but chokes. For real

Yes, I’ve purchased from them in the past. They list 1 choke that would fit, but I’m not totally sold on that one option. May be the only choice if I cant find another

I hunt with guys that use patternmaster, jebs, Carlson,Wad wizard,Kicks, Muller.

All different guns, different loads. Really depends on the set up, I have nothing bad to say about any choke manufacturers. Even stock chokes that come with the gun are good.

I have a Kicks high flyer ported full and M for my Browning maxus, shoot everything from #4s #2s #BB for waterfowl and #4 buck and 00buck for coyotes.

I wouldn't do anything before taking your gun to the pattern board with the factory choke tubes and the ammo that you intend to use, no sense wasting a hundred bucks on a choke tube if you don't have to.

I used to run factory mod choke, I found it patterned the best with most shells I run but I just picked up a pattern master code black duck. So far I’m in love with it! I’m running it out of an ata mirage (Turk) and using 3” #3 challengers. Can’t see myself ever going back to a factory choke.

Good post. Nothing wrong with the chokes that come with an A350.

I have patterned several chokes, I like the Patternmaster Code Black Goose for geese, but I shoot for the head/neck, a full pattern in the breast pretty much ruins the bird, at anything but longer range.

The last 3 chokes I bought were from Al's corner store through online purchase .good price, service was quick as was delivery . The carlson chokes pattern good with the loads I have tried . Sold off my pattern master and wad wizard chokes as very rarely used them.

I am running Carlson's Extended in everything. 12 ga Geese: Imp Cyl, 20 ga geese/ducks: Light Mod, Upland Stuff: LM, 12 ga ducks:LM. Spent a lot of time on the pattern boards to figure this out, but has paid dividends. Really nice to know that the choke/shell/gun was not the cause of misses, it was all me.

I run Carlsons LM in just about everything. My doubles are usually LM/IM and that seems to work well enough for most conditions.

I use a Carlson's cremator close and mid range out a maxus and maxus 2. I used to run a kicks high flyer Mod out of my sx3 but it didn't pattern worth a damn in my maxus's.

The only benefit to the aftermarket waterfowl chokes is they shorten shot strings, which means more pellets on the bird at once. Your factory chokes don't do that.

This. You need to prove that your existing chokes don't pattern well, at the ranges you are shooting. Remember, the reason that one is not hitting anything could easily be you. Also it could be gun fit. Or it could be the brand of shells or the shot size you're using.

In all honesty, the choke that I use, likely has the least effect on my success on birds. The only way that a choke will cause misses, is if the choke isn't machined true, and it changes the point of impact as a result.
