Hi,

Google maps wants me to go through Quebec, mapquest suggests something else, blah, blah, what's the recommended way to go to Morrisville from this side of the border? I'd be coming up the 401E towards/past Kingston, potentially stopping by in Prescott to shoot the Grenville match on the way... ??

Thanks

We drove that way last year. We crossed at Cornwall then drove the back roads of NYS to get to Vermont. If you have a GPS you would be fine, if your trying maps, watch out for the road signs as they are not very large and there is a lot of small towns you can get lost in.

A simpler route is to go through Quebec. They all seem to take about the same amount of time but its how much back road you want to do. Either way you need to leave early to miss the traffic.

This year we are traveling from Buffalo, its only supposed to take 20 minutes longer but I'm avoiding Toronto and that's worth an hour to me and I'm told its a nicer drive too.

If you do go by Cornwall, just before you get to Vermont you have to stop at "Dicks Gas, Groceries, Guns and Guitars" It pretty neat If they sold computers I'd never have to shop anywhere else!

hmmm.... ok.... what are the speed limits on the roads in NY? I.e. if I cross over in Cornwall... Google seems to indicate it would take about 2h40min to drive 170km, giving me 65km/h !?!?!?!? That can't be right, can it?

back roads SPeed limits are insanely slow in the New England states. Just like Canada, no one follows them. I was doing 10-15 miles over the speed limit, and found I would get passed a lot. 1.45 -2 hours I would estimate.

yeah, but I don't think they'd be as lenient with an out-of-state (out of country) driver... Hehehe... Plus there won't be any plead bargening to a lower charge, haha... Hmmm... maybe I'll go around to quebec after all! ;)

Most of it will be 55mph but with the small towns it will drop to 45 to 30. In NY they have a sign that says speed zone (there way of telling you to slow down) but what it won't tell you is what you need to slow down too! I've been in more than one spot having to stand on the brakes to slow down from 55 to 25!

Everyone does travel a little faster than the limit (just not in school zones) You can get by doing 5 to 10 mph over the limit but if you want to push you luck its best to be in a convoy of fast cars. That way you may not be the one who get "separated from the herd" for a road side interview.....

well, got my border att, and it was issued BEFORE I asked for the Cornwall thing, so Quebec it is, I guess ;) No problem, 120km/h to the Quebec border, than 105 inside Quebec...

Haha, when we were driving for the Montreal indoor challenge, in March, one of my passengers was getting irritated that I was driving only a hair above the speed limit, and was urging me to speed up... I looked at him ( a friend of mine) and said "we have Ont licence places, we're in Quebec, we don't speak French, and we have guns with us - do you REALLY wanna have a conversation with a local cop?" ;) That put an end to the speed comments :)
