Hey everyone,

I am looking to build a 14" 590 or 870 w/ Magpul furniture etc.
Is the best way to do this to buy a Shockwave or Tac-14 and add the Magpul stock?
Can't seem to find any non-birdhead grip 14" models right now.

That’s one way of doing it, I picked up a 14” barrel on the ee. Found a deal on a complete 870 receiver minus the stock set and barrel and used a take off stock set I had in my parts pile, bought an 870 raptor grip at a later date and not have a tac14 clone or a full stocked 14” 870 depending on what stock I put on it. Final price was less than buying a complete one, but this was before the scamdemic drove prices up and stock quantities down.

You can grab a mossberg 590a1with 14 inch barrel from me on the EE....lol.
I bought a tac 14 and added a sga stock and a few other goodies worked well. Another option is do a wingmaster build with flexi- tab conversion and source a dlask barrel. I got lucky and stoped by there month ago and they had one in back of safe lol

I know what you mean, all bets are off.

Yeah robear you might get lucky and find a 14" barrel that's a reasonable price. Probably less faffing around to get a new 14" option (the 590 Shockwave is on sale right now at "the big box place") and stock it however you want.

"Best" can mean cheap or easy, depending on your perspective. Easiest is to buy a Moss or Rem with a 14" barrel and change the furniture to what you want. $600 will get you a TAC-14 or Shockwave, $160 for the Magpul SGA Stock, and $45 for the Magpul forend = $805. plus tax (and possibly shipping). You can buy a used Mossberg 500/590 or Remington 870 shotgun and use the receiver for a build. $205. for the Magpul furniture, $300 for a 14" Rem 870 barrel, or $400 for the Mossberg 14" conversion kit and the remainder for the donor receiver ($300 or less for the Remington or $200 or less for the Mossberg - to stay under the $805). For the cheapest, go with all used parts for a build or start with a used TAC-14 or Shockwave plus used furniture.

I prefer Mossberg shotguns, however I went with a Rem 870 receiver for my shorty shotgun. There are simply more parts for the 870's and at the time I couldn't find a decent priced 14" conversion kit for my Mossberg. If I was to do it now, I would buy a shockwave and change the furniture, given Remington's QC shortcomings over the last while (which I hope changes given they are an iconic brand).
