Greetings to you fellow reloaders,

I have decided that it is time for me to dump the turret press and go for a progressive what will probably outlast myself and fill my needs forever. I have my eyes on a Dillon 650, and I was wondering what would be the best way/place to order/buy one. (Probably new, since I haven't seen a used one up for sale). I would prefer buying outside Quebec, so I can avoid PST.

Also, I was wondering if it would be safe with customs (no hassle) to import it directly from the US. I guess that it would be exempt of duties since it is made in USA (NAFTA)?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

you will have to pay at least GST on Canadian purchases.

if you import from the US there will not be any duty but instead you will pay PST and GST as it will be collected at the border.

you should be OK with customs -I know I was on a bunch of Dillon parts. but you never know. your odds may the fall is better than in the summer - fewer summer students with no knowledge of firearms related stuff.

FWIW

No hasles with ordering direct from Dillon... No duty.
You'll get charged a brokerage fee by the UPS or whover ships your package, but WTF.... You can drive to the depot yourself and clear the parcel in person.... Me, I'll pay the fee and save the trip...
When I ordered my 550 in the end it cost me less than buying here from anybody... Brokerage fee and all.

If you ship via Can Post you will not be charged a brokerage fee. The only draw back is it takes 2 or 3 weeks for the item to arrive. You will also have to pay GST and Provincial sales tax when you receive the item.

When I ordered mine, I looked into Reloaders Bench. His prices were decent. Due to a problem with E-mail, I though Brian had blown me off, so I ordered from BrianEnos.com. By sending a US$ money order, I was able to save on the surcharge.

One thing you need to know about dealing with Dillon Dealers. They get a piss poor discount on most items. Depending on the item, it varies from 5-15%. On some retail items, they get no discount at all. Also, the bundled items like primer tubes and conversion kit sets don't apply to dealer orders.

The shipping charges are horrible. I ordered a 1050 and a 650 and a few conversion kits, and the shipping was over $400USD.

After all the parcels arrived, I found out about the e-mail problem, and since then have done a fair bit of business with Brian Stephens of Reloaders Bench. He keeps a ton of stuff in stock, and seems to have regular orders from Dillon.

:!: Bought my 550 at gun show years ago, but they used to ship direct (in US anyhoo)

Shipping direct was inadvertantly a problem for Dillon. Since they sold direct, and didn't offer a dealer discount, there was no reason for the local shops to carry them. Instead of offering there customers quality, many opted to carry dirt cheap Lee products, and order in anything else the customer wanted.

Finally Dillon realized they were loosing an opportunity, so they cut the dealers a small margin. It ain't much, but it beats having to flog crap.
